The 997 GT3/RS Cars For Sale Thread...
Completely unrelated but I am so glad to see another Evo owner on here! 60k miles on my IX, just about every one of them put on by me, quite a few of which at the track as well. Unbelievably special cars.

It's hard for anyone other than you to answer that question. Objectively, the driving experience is not $100k (or even $50k) better. You are definitely not paying for the performance increase. You are mostly paying for the cache and pride of ownership of the RS badge. Absolutely nothing wrong with that if the $100k doesn't make a difference to your financial security.

It definitely crossed my mind and I'm glad they're trending down to that level. Seems like the right price for that experience. I got to drive a 981 GT4 when my buddy picked one up about a year ago. It was a wonderful experience. In a vacuum, it's damn near perfect.
But the 997 GT3 was the car that hooked me in my mid-20s. It's my halo car. Hell I've never even sat in one but thousands of people can't be wrong about them. Anyone would be lucky to have a GT4 but I don't love them. And I've already had three mid-engine cars (Elise, 987 Spyder, Exige). I want a new experience.
Also if I'm going 981 I'd probably go Spyder. It's such a beautiful design and if it's imperceptibly close in performance to a GT4, why not get the convertible?

Dropping 100k€ on it seems like a tough proposition in my opinion. If you have the $ sure go for it. But from a value and experience perspective to me personally this doesn't work out as both cars are too similar when not being driven at their limits. And then what is your use case? If you are just driving on public roads like this dude in the video then even a C2S is too fast if driven properly. This is different if you are hunting for milliseconds on tracks where an RS should be faster (provided you have the skills to move the vehicle at its limits).
Last but not least to me it's interesting how different the markets are - I am talking US vs. Germany. In the latter market those modified cars are a tough sell. People want the "original" experience and shy away from anything that has been "tuned" and so from a value preservation perspective you'd lose a ton of €. Again, if you have the funds and this thing with exactly those tunes are your dream, go for it. If not, you might want to first experience the limits of the non-RS before switching to a different (not necessarily better) driving experience.
Just my 2 cents

^^^ when you're looking at it strictly from a monetary perspective, then sure, your rationale makes some sense. Heck, I have even made that exact same rationale & stick with the non-RS for my use case. But when you get drawn into this Rennlist sphere & your soul urges for the (as GlenGT3 said above) cache & pride of RS ownership,... then you start to make those justifications. I am able to resist (the almighty ROI investment $$ €€ does not consume me, plus my wife enjoys driving the GT3 just as much as I do, and she's not as "hard core",... so enjoying this Mezger GT3 experience with her is GOLD to me).
Keep in mind that fayraree is also considering spending a lot of money to modify his GT3 (see his build thread) with a color change etc etc,... plus given that he would probably not really have to pony up a full $100k US for the exchange,... when he combines both those factors,... I'm thinking it's more like a $65k up charge to swap into the RS. His car can probably fetch $135k, then factor in the $20k for the mods he "would have" done to it,... then buy the RS for $220k,... whaLA,.... $65k to get into the gray RS. Go for it fayraree!!! PCCB's, Buckets, ... that Spec is SPEAKING to you!!

^^ sports cars are stupid and make no sense. You buy it because you want it. HOWEVER, GT cars may go up and down in value but overall a pretty low risk place to park (well hopefully drive) your money. I'd wager folks buying new Supras or C2S will lose more money than him going from a gt3 to an rs when it comes time to part ways.
Hell ya. It is an odd combo but i absolutely adore my evo. Took forever to find a clean white ix and I may never sell it. Just ticked 78k on it at 450whp stock block and 6 speed.

Crazy town.
1,131mi on this...not one to read into!
Good on you finding a clean one! So many of them have been wrecked, beaten up, modded with eBay parts, etc. That car is my reference point for what incredible steering and a raw, highly communicative driving experience feels like.

Are you moving on it? I was wondering about interior pictures and what they did about the stereo system. Not that I'm buying. I have a deposit on a car now. A Porsche GTS daily driver
Seems like a bargain compared to this one that sold for 198K

welp, I slept on it (aka wife threatened castration) and I passed at the $100k delta that was offered to me lol
I agree, I would never regret having that beast in my garage. I was offered 130k in a rushed offer, I’m sure if I took my time I could get more.
unfortunately I would have to make a few (aesthetic) home reno sacrifices if I spent on the RS, and since the GT3 was very recent, I’m going to have sit in the passenger seat for a little while when it comes to big splurges in my family lol!
Thanks man! Appreciate it! I’d love for my car to go to a fellow RL’er. When the time is right I’ll definitely post here first.
<3 agreed 100% just didn’t have the cojones to pull the trigger yesterday lol
Excellent advice! But driving from NJ to Brooklyn is like living in a different country lol. That NYC traffic is suicide inducing. Would love to test drive it, but generally if Doug Tabbutt has done so and gives it a green light, I wouldn’t need to. Trust him and he was 100% right about my car before I signed all the paperwork without driving it, then drove to Cleveland from NJ to take delivery.
PAINFULLY accurate!! And yeah, I have several things I want to do with my GT3, it feels so distracting to have the endgame (RS) so close I could taste it! Need to update the build thread, I think I know what I’m doing next! Also, I don’t think I’d be able to fully pass along the costs of the mods to the buyer, so I’d be just burning my cash if I wanted to sell.
Nah, man, I passed. I’d want a compression, leak down and bore scoping due to that painfully bad DME. Yes it was 200 hrs ago so Porsche gives it a clean bill of health NOW but for this to be a forever car, I’d need to see the rest of the data points from within the engine.

These engines are very stout. I wouldn’t worry about that DME if the car is running good and everything else checks out. Overrev reports are ever rated.
