OK, very interesting. With a 2/98 and 3/98 build, respectively, my understanding is that the engine serials should have a W (signifying 1998 build, not model year) and not an X (1999 build), with the date code lettering being different than the VIN lettering, where the letter signifies model year.
My S/N is M96/0166X15601, but the full build sheet (available from Suncoast or Stuttcars for $10-20) indicates an original serial of 66W08070.
This says to me that my car (and yours) saw an engine replacement early (before the rebuilds were stamped with AT codes), as both serials are fairly low.
Perhaps @Flat6 Innovations or someone else can clarify? I've heard that some early 1999 builds needed replacements very early in life.

I always thought the date was the model year 🤷♂️

Thanks
Yes, it still has them
Car is stock except for Fister exhaust mod and aftermarket stereo.
Looking for someplace to remove the hideous Alpine/amp/subwoofer and replace it with a stock looking Continental stereo

This is the kit that I installed. Very easy, LCD looks good as new (if not better).

Porsche dealer info
my car has a 3/98 built date. Anyway the funny thing is that when I call Porsche dealership for parts given the vin number they say is a 98, tittle insurance company and everything else say is a 99. I got a contact at a Porsche dealership that gives me shop price, he called me yesterday to let me know that my amp bracket just came in. I’m still missing the 6 cd changer the car came in with, my original cdr220 works fine. I just don’t know how to program the stations 😂.

I'm surprised your car has a 220. My 6/98 had a 210 originally.

Amazing. Those (incomprehensibly rare) narrow fitment BBS hollow spokes are the lightest 18”+ wheels ever offered on any Porsche. Ever. Lighter even than the fabled Carrera II Lightweights of MKII.
In twenty+ years I have found them remaining originally installed on only one MY1999 car. Bought it on the spot. And now yours! (Perhaps this will flush out other survivors??)
Those OEM wheels drop the Factory delivered weight of your Early MY1999 below 2,900lbs, which is approaching 2.7 RS HP/weight territory.
Hold onto those freaking wheels.

(How rare are these wheels, really?)

The hollow wheels are just proof positive your car belongs in the scrap heap being turned into a cube.
Sorry that's just science my man
