Someone can correct me here but I've seen only some of the earlier .1 cars come with LSD. I think it was more common on the cars with cable throttle but not always. Besides that, the only cars that definitely received LSD were the 40th anniversary cars.

I guess 996s with (option 220 ) LSDs automatically got:

222 Traction control ASR AntriebsSchlupfRegelung
and
224 Traction control ABD Automatic Braking Differential

I’ve seen several other 1999s optioned the same way my 2/98 build is

I just went through this with PCNA and my specifications sheet vs. the options sheet. Nice build, by the way! My 3/98 is below.

The 014 package implies option 220 (along with some others, including the 030 lower sport suspension and L/R sport seats), and in turn option 220 implies 222 and 224. This, in my conversations with the Classic people at PCNA, at least applies to the 1999 C2. I think it's also possible to have 220, 222 and 224 without 014. As you said, I think the 220 always is tied to 222 and 224.

PCNA asked if I wanted my PPS to show the 014 option or the sub-options broken out, and I went with the latter, producing the PPS below.

For reference:

Also, I'm curious - what's your engine S/N?

Nice👍
014 Sports Package/ 408 Hollow Spokes/ Arctic Silver must have been a popular spec on early build 996s haha

I love Arena red on a 996 but on this 991 it looks like a cartoon

However, IMHO, an LSD is critical in adding stability and safety to the rear end, on and off the track. The reason is that with an LSD, you have power going to both rear wheels. Without an LSD, you don't.

But it costs money. Hence a potential premium on cars with one.

Yes, like everything, it can wear out. I put a rebuilt guard on mine over 10 years ago. I drive it on the street and track. No problems. Works like new. But it cost me.
I had a 1990 BMW 535i 5 speed with an LSD. I miss that car. But with cheap all season tires and me being a dumbass high school kid, it never got stuck in the snow

Then a few years later I had a 1995 540i 6 speed and no LSD but traction control and high quality all season tires. That thing sucked *** in the snow. LSD makes a huge difference IMO

OK, very interesting. With a 2/98 and 3/98 build, respectively, my understanding is that the engine serials should have a W (signifying 1998 build, not model year) and not an X (1999 build), with the date code lettering being different than the VIN lettering, where the letter signifies model year.

My S/N is M96/0166X15601, but the full build sheet (available from Suncoast or Stuttcars for $10-20) indicates an original serial of 66W08070.

This says to me that my car (and yours) saw an engine replacement early (before the rebuilds were stamped with AT codes), as both serials are fairly low.

Perhaps @Flat6 Innovations or someone else can clarify? I've heard that some early 1999 builds needed replacements very early in life.

It's the clutch packs that wear out in the LSD.
Pretty sure you have to split the case to replace them

Wondering where we can get a replacement LCD for 60 bucks. Thanks
