Curious where this will end up. This GT2 in mint condition sold for less than that white GT3 https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2003-porsche-gt2-12/. I was expecting it to go past $200k but it did not. Everyone has their reasons for going after a car but made me wonder if the NA variants are just more desirable these days, given that just about every other modern car is a turbo or some other form of forced induction. FWIW, the guy that bought the GT3 already had a GT2.

And as someone pointed out in the comments, you can't really drive the RS for 6 years till the 25 year rule goes in effect. I believe show and display has a 2500mi limit. Will probably get locked away in storage

I'd sell my first born! Granted don't have one, and probably for good reason whenever examples like these pop up.

there are a lot of people on both pcarmarket and bat that comment a lot and never place a single bid on a car. Recently I was bidding on a 04 C4S , it did not made the reserve so it went on to dealtank (pcar). So after that I placed my max and got a counteroffer from the seller. So Alex from pcar reached out and try to make it work, anyway I did not bought the cat but Alex was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Both sites mentioned are either more favorable for Sellers or Buyers. I’ve used both: PCar to buy, and BaT to sell. YMMV

I agree with above, PCar seems to be where to buy and BaT where to sell

Just for fun I decided to compare prices now vs. the last time I was 996 shopping which was the summer of 2018. Specifically for an early 3.4 manual coupe.

I think it's safe the say the prices are more than "drifting" now. Pretty shocking difference. First thing I noticed was the selection of available cars went from 8-9 pages to 2-3 pages on a nationwide search. Three years ago I was regularly finding ultra low mileage (sub 40k) cars for 23-25. Those are now 35-40k. The higher mileage drivers have went from mid teens to mid twenties. Yeah there's oddball exceptions but overall a very noticeable shift in the 996 market. I had a sense they were undervalued back in 2018 when I began to notice that I was competing against flippers. Many of the low mileage cars were bought and quickly turned around on BAT by popular sellers there like SWVintage, usually yielding a comfortable profit. Some of the deals I passed on make me facepalm; nice early aero cars for low 20's, C4S mid twenties.

Oh well, cheap 996's were fun while they lasted!

you can get an awesome 997 c2s all optioned out for that. This is starting to seem like the theory were it’s worth whatever someone is willing to pay as long as there are others willing to pay the price. The problem like the tulips is that someone is going to be standing holding the bag with nobody to sell to. I know some people that bought bit coin at $50, 35 to 36 now ouch. Maybe the bidders in BAT are washing $$$$. Don’t know but I have even seen nice turbos for this kind of money.

That one makes no sense to me at all. I just don't understand what the draw was to hit that number but damn.
