The demand should continue to grow knowing the M96 car is a durable no brainer if you do the "right things to it", and that pound for pound is one of the best Porsche bargains on the street. Timeless beauty, performance, handling, and cost effective service and solutions.
What more can you ask for in this day and age of expensive techno wizardry cars that you need a PhD in electrical engineering to work on it.
I haven't trust German electronics in cars since the 80's when it was still relatively simple. I surely don't trust them with basically the whole vehicle having so much electronic switches and sensors. Even sensors to check other sensors to make sure they're working. At some point, a mouse bites a wire, and the whole car doesn't work because one sensor thinks another sensor is not working, and it decides it needs to limp home.
If you can get over the early 90's Ford Taurus parts bin interior of buttons and displays, and the headlights, of the 996, then you're getting probably the last great "easy to fix" Porsche 911 there is for the money. You can argue the 997 is better, but not when you factor current prices.
Appreciate your thoughts. I don't worry as much about the interior these days. With the 996 restomods starting, we will have plenty of refresh and new ideas coming to the market that don't loose the identity and look of the 996, but will certainly improve on it. I have held off on any interior enhancement projects on my car on purpose until 2024.
folks that are just excited about being able to own a 911 at a low purchase price to...
folks that have actually studied the 996, its issues and plethora of common sense cost effective solutions (IMS Solution or Retro, UAOS, UIDS, etc.)...
I agree whole-heartedly that this is happening. I already had my dream car, a 993, and figured a 996 would be a perfect addition to my garage, because it shares many of the same traits I admire about the 993, and is more comfortable and practical to use on a daily basis. I sold my 2014 Porsche to move into a 2004.
And one thing is very clear, especially amongst the younger buyers who scoop up a 996 they can barely afford as their first Porsche: the enthusiasm in this community is unparalleled and growing.
One day, when everyone is commuting in 5700 pound electric vehicles, that simple, nimble little 2900lbs rear engine sports cars will seem even more special.

Congrats on scoring a 40AE with sport seats! I love mine and they are quite rare as most were spec'd with "comfort" seats.

Ah.. thinking by analogy, very lazy. EZ to categorize and lump stuff together. We've all done it. In this case it's caused depressed values, which is ok if you ask yourself would you have paid double for your car? Also, wonder how long will it last?
Funny thing is that I like the interior. Sure, for the next 20 years of ownership I would like to refresh and upgrade it to a degree. But I'm not looking at the interior when I drive it. Nor am I looking to compare it to newer models or older models. It's just the interior it came with. Plus gt3 seats, roll bar, racing harnesses and renline aluminum track mats.
When someone gets in the car, they are so fascinated by the seats, sound and go-cart-like feel of the car, the last thing they are looking at is whether the dash is better or worse than any other car. Never once does anybody ever ask if I have a modern radio or blue tooth system. Nor do they care. Long live the 996!
Just finished the last bit of service I wanted done before going on a Route 66 adventure and then listing.
Route 66 adventure canceled.
All in the last few thousand miles, new clutch, install new UAOS, Coolant Tank, Water Pump, Drive belt, Air Filter & Gearbox service.
I had Overrev detail Sheet done by Porsche Tech.
Last month I had Porsche Syracuse do the oil change this time with Porsche Classic Motor Oil.
My 5-6 years of UOA from Blackstone was with Mobil 1.
Lol, only the second time the wiper blades were replaced on the 19 year old car, I guess Porsche Blades last a long time. Previous owner, (2004-2014) nor I ever try to drive in the rain. I never even filled the Wiper Washer fluid in the 8 years I have owned it.
They also did a Bumper to Bumper overview of the car.
It looks similar to the PPI sheet that I paid Harper Porsche in Knoxville to do when I bought it.
Tomorrow is all day at the detailer that's been keeping it pretty for 8 years.
Next week photos.
I just put an email to BAT, I am not sure if I can choose a start/finish time for auction.
I am not even sure what is a preferred finish time.
I can't think of anything else to do to properly prepare an outstanding car for a ride on BAT.
My only two gripes are: one, the fuel mileage (18 mpg highway/18 mpg city)
That's pretty good for the city mileage, but pretty crazy bad mileage on the highway for a 3,000 lb car . Nobody expects economy from a GT3, but I'm still pretty surprised how low highway mileage is.
I can't think of anything else to do to properly prepare an outstanding car for a ride on BAT.
look forward to seeing what it brings. Are you going to put a reserve on it? I don’t know how anybody can’t put one on, but I hear it generates more activity without one?
