The cayenne is an off-road vehicle. The 996 c4s is the finest means of conveyance ever produced not only by Porsche, but by man himself.
This post contains two examples of exaggeration.

So the Mezger “suffers” from:
1. Coolant pipes that may need to be fixed if the car is tracked seriously
2. A possible issue with 2nd gear synchro in some early cars from first 18-months of production
3. Valve guides may begin to show wear anecdotally between 141K to 180K miles.
We may thus deduce the Mezger is the most durable engine in the history of manufacturing

Great motor there, but not an authentic Porsche Motorsports powerplant by any stretch
The Mezger really isn’t comparable to anything else road legal, and not much else period

Cayenne is the only luxury vehicle on earth that can go anywhere, at 150mph+
Nothing anything like it
And if you think LeMans is brutal, imagine the Transsiberia Rally? Cayenne won on its first try in 2007. Then in 2008 Porsche Motorsports entered six more and placed 1-6
Just an absolutely amazing “all-round” off-road/Motorsports vehicle that has been completely overlooked for decades

I know there is an option for ride height, but it's not cheap and I don't have it. Otherwise, we love our beast, despite it looking like it went through the Transsiberia Rally six times.

1. The coolant pipe fittings are more of a problem with the coolant system design where it attaches to the engine. Epoxy was a bad idea.
2. The synchro is a transaxle problem and nothing to do with the engine at all.
3. Valve guide wear is pretty much a historical problem for Porsche engines with high mileage. No big deal.

Yup, every engine should be so lucky as the immortal Mezger
I would argue that:
1. The coolant pipe fittings are more of a problem with the coolant system design where it attaches to the engine. Epoxy was a bad idea.
2. The synchro is a transaxle problem and nothing to do with the engine at all.

Getting back to the M96, sale prices on BAT over the long weekend were strong.

As the buyers move from...
folks that are just excited about being able to own a 911 at a low purchase price to...
folks that have actually studied the 996, its issues and plethora of common sense cost effective solutions (IMS Solution or Retro, UAOS, UIDS, etc.)...
The demand should continue to grow knowing the M96 car is a durable no brainer if you do the "right things to it", and that pound for pound is one of the best Porsche bargains on the street. Timeless beauty, performance, handling, and cost effective service and solutions.
What more can you ask for in this day and age of expensive techno wizardry cars that you need a PhD in electrical engineering to work on it.

Very true
PCM-VI infotainment, Start-Stop, Comfort-Entry, AutoMemory, PASM, Torque-Vectoring, haptic-touch displays, Entry & Drive encrypted keyfobs (up to eight, anyway), etc...
The Porsche technowizardry carnival knows no bounds these days...
