The 993 “Cup 2” wheel is altogether different and was never fitted by the factory on 996 or Boxster

Interesting. I've always been content with these 17" wheels on my 2000 C2 because, while they may not be the best handling or best looking wheel option, they are very light. Also, I remember reading in the past that the 996s suspension was designed/optimized for the 17" wheels so there is that too...

Best wheel to a collector is #408 because they’re so rare. Otherwise your 17” Twlst is the most desirable due to the superlative weight, which is literally priceless

People call your Twists “poverty spec” and I just chuckle because I’m old enough to remember those same type people calling the RSA “poverty spec” too

An RSA just sold for almost $300K on BaT last week

Hilarious

Back to the original topic of the thread once again... I'm thinking prices are actually not really drifting up anymore. Seeing less quality examples and more beaters listed. Seeing cars at carvana, carmax, and private party offered under KBB FMV (wasn't the case 6 months ago).

My opinion: I think we've reached a plateau of used car values in general. 996 will still appreciate, but much slower than the past year, with clean, well optioned, and low mileage examples will continue to appreciate to the moon as driver's cars wear and tear and make them more rare.

I came close to buying an RSA (964 RS America) in about 2004-05 at a great price [compared to today's high prices] along with many other seemingly low-priced European sports cars compared to today's market values...it's a personal issue that I deal with from time to time... I am somewhat consoled, however, by the persistent thought that we will get a significant pullback in prices [this includes the U.S. stock markets] sometime in the next year or two...or three.

Not saying you are wrong. the bears have correctly predicted 10 of the last 2 bear markets.

A bear market is inevitable. Hard part is timing it and knowing the floor will be lower than today, yesterday or 5 years ago.

Yup, the good 996’s are all are disappearing into collections now just like happened with 3.2, 964, 993... that stock turns over far less frequently

The bad CarFax & high mileage examples will continue to churn on Autotrader et-al around $30K forever

Heck even Cab-Tip 964’s still churn on Autotrader in the $30’s

Just got my new to me 2000 Paladio Cab / Tip fully serviced at 34K miles. By fully serviced I mean we dropped the engine & tranny to install the LN IMSB Solution, Skip’s Ultimate AOS, New Waterpump & Porsche Coolant Tank, Transmission serviced & sealed, 1/2 Shafts rebuilt, new spark plugs, pipes & coils, Oil Fill pipe & a few other plastic pipes & hoses replaced, oil & tranny fluid and the list goes on and the valve chain guides were fine. There are some scrapes under the nose (it’s lowered) from the PO but otherwise the paint is 4 cans on Rennbow and near perfect (no respray). Total I’ve got $33K in a car that was over $100K new in 2000. You can find silver, black, white & some red 996’s for a lot less (especially cab tips) all day but they won’t look, run & drive like they’re brand new…. Now, do I sit on it to wait for values to rise? Or do I drive it like I stole it? Drive it!!! 😎

Healthy consolidation.

Nice find, only 34k miles. And wow, you got a lot of items addressed upfront. Great choices! Enjoy in good health. You can double your mileage and probably not lose a penny in value. That’s the biggest reason I advise people to buy lower mileage cars. That easier to do with Porsche, since many owners don’t drive these cars are much.

My opinion is this…

- It’s winter, so sports car buying has slowed down. That happens every year. Doesn’t it?

- Global supply chain issues are far from over. Spring will be here very soon, the pandemic will have become an endemic, people will be ready to return to the streets, and prices will being to rise.

I have a saved email chain from 2013 where a couple friends and I were debating the purchase of an RS America. One of the guys was looking pretty hard at one for $65,000 and we all agreed it was too much money, so he passed.

We are idiots.

It would be an interesting poll to see how many folks who are actively involved in this thread are looking to sell their 996 versus just find it interesting to watch prices just for the he'll of it. Or worse yet, are speculating on 996 prices over the short term. Kinda like buying Meme stocks and Bitcoin two months ago. Not advised.

I don't plan on selling my 996 and love to tune in just for the he'll of it.

I am in for both. Not actively selling my car but I would be lying if I said I was not thinking about it over the last year. I've bought and sold a lot of cars and I wanted to keep this one for a long time so we will see.
