Removed existing connection/cleaned heavily degraded leads/replaced old connection at the coolant level sensor - Blue/Red wire was holding on by a strand - still with warning light - guess it's reservoir/sensor replacement time.
Dried and sealed L headlight - minor, but bothersome condensation.

Pulled black console cover to prepare for the cork cover. I have it but it has been "adapted" over the years. It will take some re-adapting to make it work. I should have it ready for install tomorrow.

PS I drove it to the emissions inspection garage just like that.

Drove by my '89 yesterday, still no new paint.

Parked next to a Viper the 928 doesn't look that big.

For a change (it's been four years at least), let somebody else work on the car since I don't have time for it right now.

Found out that:

• A/C had lost almost all of R-12 charge due to: leaking Schrader valves as well as slow leaks in both rear and front evaporators (I already suspected the latter from last time I worked on the A/C a couple of years ago); will address the evaporator leaks later (probably myself) later this year when our garage is once again at survivable temperatures; for now, they converted to R-134a (not my preference, but they weren't equipped for R-12); will probably revert to R-12 when I work on it again
• coolant leak under water pump (small puddles on floor, coolant chalk residue around PKns'r) was due to leaking water pump (which was a fairly new "Engine Guardian" (a.k.a. EGDS) WP that I installed myself a couple of years ago)
• not sure yet, but probably needs new radiator, as there was coolant chalk residue all over the right side radiator fan and around that part of the fan shroud (probably leak at the right side end tank)

I'm rather discouraged about the EGDS WP; I didn't expect that to fail so quickly. I'll probably send the leaky pump off to Ed at Perfex to see what happened.

Unfortunately, there wasn't time (before the OCIC) to get another EGDS WP, so I'll be running with another one (probably a vanilla Laso) for awhile. Add me to the "damn, I hate the 928 water pumps" club.

This sure would have gone better had I started working on this stuff myself a couple of months ago.

Interior Day - Leather - Switches - Paint

Yesterday: Drove to the mechanic; stopped at work on way. Topped off ATF. Drove back home. Will make minor adjustment to Bowden cable (damn near perfect now). Smiled a lot. Replaced 4 way mirror switch and crossover switch without opening door (yet). Works perfectly! Ordered replacement compressor and drier for AC.

Cleaned up the engine bay (top side); degreased and dusted...lots of it! Removed the air filter...lost one buckle...removed the intake altogether...reached down to grab said missing buckle...couldn't reach...but...it fell to the garage floor where I retrieved it! WIN!

Today: Drove to the office; may stop at mechanic on way home to say hello. Went to lunch. Fit 3 full-size adults in car including self (okay I am about 3/4 size).

Swapped worn for almost-new front PS2 tires this morning. Now feel the NFS to make sure they are truly OK. Cleaned and waxed the wheels while they were off.

Car was cleaned nicely last week and still looks pretty stunning. Do I want to take it out and risk getting it a little dusty? Ummmhh, yes! I can wash off the dust without washing off the smile.

Fixed my starts-but-dies-and-won't-restart problem. No spark. Green wire looks good but reads a little high resistance through the dizzy pickup coil. Changed that coil, no help. Got out the FM and then RTFM - trouble tree took me right to the problem. It seems PO had put on a new connector (that connects to the green wire) but pins were not locked-in. Easy fix.
So, now back to work on my interior make-over. ...Bruce

Changed out spark plugs, and test drove!!!!!!!! from finishing up Cam cover replacement..(tensioner pads, oil block off pins, gaskets, adjusted cables, zip tied heater vac switch, new o ring in oil cap, cat bypass, tranny filter/fluid, K-10 spring, made new tranny lines, exhaust hangers)..


Smile is Back!!!!

I've been working on softening the leather on my seats since last Thursday. I used a soft rag and applied a whole pint of Color-Plus Leather Soffener (got mine at Car Care Specialties, my favorite source for that kind of stuff) last Thursday and plastic wrapped the seats as best as I could (not easy, given the very irregular shape of the seats). Car was in the shop for a few days; I got it back yesterday. Unwrapped the seats, and all of the conditioner had been soaked up. Opened another pint and applied some more last night, and yet some more this morning. I'll do the final wipe-down and buffing of the seats tonight or tomorrow morning.

So far, it seems to be working pretty well; the leather had gotten really dry and stiff and I hadn't really done anything with it for a few years. Thanks go to Mark Anderson, who gave me some grief about this three years ago at the 2009 OCIC in Texas. I didn't forget, Mark! I didn't exactly jump right on it, but I got to it eventually!




BTW, Chuck, that's very nice repair work you showed above. Sure is nice to see things restored after that much damage.
