Dropped exhaust and flywheel cover to check flexplate loadup... It was maxed! Endplay measures
.014" still good but scary. I didn't think the 16V cars had a problem with TBF... Guess I need to pursue a new clamping solution. Not going to drop my transaxle for some time so I'll need to go with a simpler than Constantine for the time being.
Also installed a new rear hatch catch and upper radiator hose. Split the upper hose on a trip back from Mammoth.

Well it is what we finished today. New clutch, clutch hose, motor mounts, steering rack, oil pan gasket and stud kit, exhaust gaskets, oil sending unit, fan clutch and bearings, AC dryer, AC lo/hi pressure switch, sway bar bushings, short shifter kit. Now I need to change shocks, redye interior, replace entire stereo, paint the brake calipers, powder coat the intake and polish all raw metal engine parts, change 16 inch dials to 18 inch turbo twists with new tires and the light at the end of the tunnel will begin to flicker...

Had a mobile aircon guy around to check out my car. Mysteriousy lost its refrigerant..... he pumped out, couldn't detect any leaks and filled it - working fine again. It will be interesting to see how longit lasts this time. Was converted to R134a 3 years ago, the first fill lasted 2 1/2 years, the last one less than a year... so I guess it wasn't done correctly.

Interesting discovery ... a persistent body squeaking/creaking noise was a misaligned lower door hinge. My door has never closed as smoothly and easily as others' 928s but I hadn't really looked at it closely before.
Today I noticed at each hinge there's a hole that must be a factory alignment mark ... I'm guessing when they have the door set just right they drill the hole through the hinge and the body in case they ever have to come apart in the future. Well I noticed my hole was not aligned and so I loosened the bolts and futzed around with the door until my punch went all the way down into the hole. Then I tightened the bolts back up. Now the door swings more smoothly and the alignment to the fender is noticeably better. When I drove off, I immediately noticed the absence of squeaking and creaking over the usual bumpy areas near home.
Wish I had thought to look at this long ago! For my next step, I'm going to figure out the exact size of the hole and use a matching drill bit to precisely align both hinges, upper and lower. Then it will be perfect, or as close as you can get after 19 years and 149k miles!

Cleaned and realigned the plate in my throttle body, installed new throttle position switch, idle control valve, and new plug wires. The car is running like it did 10 years ago when I bought it. Now moving to suspension....then to paint and interior.
