Default Temp II failure and replacement

Getting my money's worth here on the RL

My car was starting to flood and run way rich when cold or sitting for a bit. Thought it my be the dampers or FPR but they tested fine so got out the mutlimeter and low and behold, one of the two prongs tested to 16.4k WAY out of spec.

I got mine at Autozone (pn SU5817) and as it has a lifetime warranty...free!
This was the second time I've replaced it in 4 years. Seems like too frequent failure mode.

cleaned all the tools and crap out, rearranged them, and prepped her for the move (via flatbed) to her new home going up in a few weeks.

Dropped off the rear shift coupling and boot to be installed by the shop post- AC compressor and radiator rebuild with rear-shift-coupling WYAIT.

Called later to see if she was ready. "Yes, but she needs an inspection." Okay, go ahead.

Called later to see if she had passed. "No—high NOx and HC." A mystery: last time (right after cat replacement) she passed with room to spare. Okay, leave her out and I'll come pick her up and blow the carbon out over the weekend.

Took a cab. I'm going to steal that Porsche. If anybody asks, I was never here. Heh.

Started her up—a little rough. Running terribly, as though on four cylinders. Low on gas. Hmm. Bad gas? Stop at downtown Texaco station to fill up on premium.

Let's take a look under the hood, shall we? What's this? there's nothing connected to the bottom of the right-hand distributor. D'ya think that might have been why she didn't pass inspection? Might a mechanic have noticed a 928 that ran like a Yugo?

Plug in the coil wire, and all is right with the world.

Get her home, and treat the front passenger seat with Color Plus Soffener.

Life's been good to me so far.

Everything seems to be ok. Immediately noted a smoother idle. Hard to say on throttle response and mid to top end as I have not had a chance yet to unleash the ponies But soon...........

Car certainly feels at least as good as it did before and will advise further once I can get her out on some decent roads.

Cheers

Timing belt with porkensioner. Cleaned, cleaned, cleaned. Only problem came when I had to put the harmonic balancer back on. It was 90 plus and I was in the driveway with the sun on the crank snout and the balancer on the cool garage floor. After packing the cranknose with ice I got the balancer back on.
I also eliminated the air pump system so I need to find a belt tomorrow to finish.

Fan, alternator and radiator to go.

Fixed intermittently failing 3rd Brake Light - contact issue of Red/Black to Bulb body.
Diagnosed and Repaired center console and pod switches illumination Failure - a Black/Blue twisted together - the 'Shiny Black Electrical Tape Sign' gave the location away.
While going through my diagnostics for the illumination issue, I had the R center console panel removed. When I put it back, I unknowingly ran the rear screw through the sunroof wire harness. When I took her out for a victory drive in the sun, to my dismay the sunroof didn't work. Back to the garage, and found the error of my ways. I hit the Brown of the harness. All is well now. Quite an electrical day.

Add: I forgot - added some small ties to the rear hatch cam - now the intermittent opening is gone.

Installed my new coloured Porsche wheel centre caps on my wheels. Previous versions were faded black and looking a little poorly. Thanks Rog!

Cheers

Checked timing belt tension - warning light this AM on a drive.
Was sitting higher in the window than where I set it on it's change 30 k miles ago (according to my Log, I've checked it 3 times after the change and it had never moved). Still in the window though. Tightened it up to 'high' in the window. It's a Porsche/Gates belt.
You know, I've never had to 'tighten it up' when not doing the entire job (I've done 6 or 7 TB/WP jobs on 2 different 928's). It's a PITA with everything on.
I consider myself a purist but I've had enough of this tensioner. I've had 3 frozen in the past on take down. I hate to drive my car on a beautiful day in the countryside, nice curvaceous and empty roads at speed, and have that little bit of tension in the back of my mind that I'm going to see an Red Exclamation Point thinking of catastrophic tension loss with it's catastrophic belt jumping.
Next stop is Ken's tensioner.
Sorry for the vent.

Default Balanced front wheels/tires....smooooth

Noticed a vibration at 65-75 coming up to Maine for weeks vacation, went to Sullivan Tire (with hunter road force) and $28 later for two front wheels smooth as glass.... Headed down to Rochester, NH to look at a couple Triumph TR 6s,,, used to have a Healey...had sold it when I got the 928. Thinking about another project..

Nice hour down and hour back to Scarborough on the back roads, car ran flawlessly!

Upgraded the hvac blower motor with Roger's replacement. Had to modify the old style housing, but made it work. No more weird noises out of the dash.

Replaced the heater control valve. Probably the easiest job I've done so far on the car.

Had a little fun with a Mercedes AMG, not sure what type but it was a sedan. As I pass him, I suddenly hear his exhaust roar and engine rev high. He instantly catches up and edges ahead of me. I shrug it off but he revs hard again so I floor it, kickdown, and she screams. My head gets pushed back into my seat and she launches forward way ahead of him. I do a little navigation to get in front of the pack before the red light a half mile down.

Not long after as I'm stopped I see the AMG quietly pass on the turning lane.
