Zep Purple is very very strong ... When I first purchased my car it was totally caked everywhere. The PO just let oil leak and burn on... I attempted cleaning this with engine degreasers, soap etc.... nothing really worked... Too many small areas I could not really brush...
Warning1: Do not get it on paint and zinc coated metal.
-The pretty zinc will get spotted.
-Engine paints can be dulled, some paints cleanup just fine. You would not want to put this on your new valve cover paint as an example...
Comes in a gallon jug and is sold at home depot with the cleaning supplies....
Warning2: Use gloves and glasses.... this stuff burns your hands when exposed for more the a few minutes.
Warning3: The fumes are almost nothing but don't under estimate this stuff... I do not breath this stuff in... smell like fantastic cleaner but I think it will burn if you inhale the vapor when spraying.
Warning4: Do not leave this on any surface for a long period of time... you should completely rinse the stuff off when the job is done.
Washes off with soap and water.... so if you screw up.... quickly getting the hose and soap will dilute it. Letting the stuff wash into the grass does nothing to the grass... unlike something like engine de-greaser.
If the bottom of your car is caked... using a pressure washer with zep purple will clean it up.... Down side... its really hard to avoid getting the cleaner on a bolts... the bolts will not look shiny if you do this....they lose the corrosion resistance .... kind of a trade off...
I would not do this unless the car was really bad and you would not bother doing it at all if it was not easy...
Up side... I can work on the car in a white t-shirt for hours without actually getting very dirty.... garage floors do not get caked with little pieces of grim every time you touch something....

I rivetted a piece of 2mm teflon sheet between the inlet and outlet supercharger pipes to stop them rubbing each other up the wrong way.
Also replaced the original 16" front fan with a Zirgo 16" Ultra high flow.

Learned a lot today about the 79.
Learned that an Alternator from a 86.5 won't fit.
Learned that a new voltage regulator wont fit the alternator from the 79.
Learned that once the alternator is sitting on the ground and the wires are hanging it is a wonderful time to sand ,scuff and clean all the electrical connections.
Learned I might not need to purchase every single good deal that I run across when it comes to 928 stuff.![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Finally, I learned that a properly cleaned alternator functions much better than one that has been ignored for decades. Should be GTG

Took the ride up to Owls Head Auto and airplane museum for their fall festival. MG and local Down East Porsche club were guest Marques.
One other 928 there, 84 belonging to Lenny. Very nice shape!
Great day for a drive up RT 1 in Maine. Weather held out and stayed around 70 degrees all day.
All in all put 200 miles on the GT and running well.
Next big drive, out to Tass' at the end of Oct

Saturday, Dis-assembled a pod and cluster for a friends S4. Cleaned all the connections, checked bulbs. All bulbs worked with a 9-volt and alligator clips, but the four larger bulbs that provide back lighting still do not work properly. Next step is to pull the fuse panel and clean the grounds located behind it. The owner says this has not been done during his ownership.

I replaced my pollen filter yesterday evening, the old one was dirty but not hugely. The evaporator was very clean with no blockage what so ever, and there were only two small leaves in the overall enclosure. So obviously the filter is doing it's job as designed.
Note on the top left photo that the shown "yellow/brown cloth" is actual heat resistance material (it had become dirty, hence the look) - and belongs to be there on that particular spot (EDIT: nope, not the right place at all! See post#3240 for where this need to be).

Took a few hours this morning to install a set of Koni's/3 dot blue springs on my '88, rear only so far. Am really loving the difference as the Boge/Eibach was too soft back there.
Car feels much more balanced now.
Also got to play with my new spring compressor.

Fixed RR small connecter hose from block to heater control value under airbox. Really made a mess when it let go, coolant everywhere.
Replaced hose, filled with 50/50 mix and ran until thermostat kicked in and "burped" couple times and waited for cool and topped off expansion tank.
Smoked pretty bad as all coolant was burning off the cats, so flushed under the airbox and firewall as well as undercarriage with water hose and now back to "normal"..
