I'm not sure where it would sell but I'd guess if its in great condition and no stories then between $80-$100k it may find some interest?

Pete. We discussed it a while back. Robert Dong had an agreement on it back in 2003 IIRC. The Independant Prestige mechanic who picked it up from Haslers was T boned turning into IP. Cant remember if he was at fault. The car was badly damaged but fixed up and Robert asked me to inspect the work. It was ok not perfect. He drove it before doing the deal and felt there was something not right so cancelled teh deal walked next door and bought a 996 GT3 from Gillies which i believe he has to this day....

^^^^^^^ Agreed Pete.

John - I agree with your comments too. My earlier rant was not about which is the better car, but more Porsche 'fashion' and the light weight journalism of that particular article.

IMHO - after 20 years the better car is the individual example that has been better maintained.

Aha - I knew it was discussed but not the history. Interesting if any additional work has been done in the intervening years. Still moonbeams being asked!

And that is exactly the point - and glad we all came around to it. 993 vs 964 debates are utterly pointless. I've had both and loved them both for different reasons - all completely personal and subjective.

On any given day I'm swayed by the aesthetics of either so as you (and John) say, it comes down the model which has had the most $, love and attention lavished on it.

PS: Anyone have a nice red 964 for sale... I'm sure its been long enough now.....

True re condition. Just done my Saturday Marathon, or probably two Marathons, dropping off BB2 for her cage (with Dave), then going to various part suppliers. So much is written about this and that model but deferred maintenance is what will really cost you with any car.

BTW when Dave and I dropped off BB2 we had a gander at a 500hp off roader and a Beetle drag car. Our levels of being upside down don't compare to a real race car.

Pete I had completely forgotten you had a 993 once. Tippo if I recall correctly. Was a nice example too...

As noted on The RSG Facebook page, BB failed her WOF today. The one safety issue was a missing engine mount bolt. I have harvested one off the Grinch so that's sorted.

Chris B will come over tomorrow morning and trailer her to HD. The Playday is still on for Sam and others. I will be in Sydney so will leave it you guys to sort out on the day.

BTW the road seat is in. The race seat is in the boot. You will need a 12mm socket. Sorry I ran out of time to swap them back over.

I have to connect emotionally with an asset to be bothered with continual expense, which is probably why I whinge occasionally about the 996TT build quality and reliability. I see it as a machine more than an object of desire. That said, on a grotty day it's my first choice. Horses for courses. ...

Long live the differences in the way we approach things and try to remember that we share the petrol head passion above all. That 15 people could share an ownership of a car boggles the mind. It only works because we are more similar than we think.
Too true, and very nicely put. Each to their own though, so it's my turn to bite. For me, my upgraded K16 996T is the perfect blend of the 959 and F40 I lusted after when younger. From the 959: a purposefully wide and vented 2+2 Porsche body with decent glasshouse allowing a real world driving position and AWD assisted sub-4s acceleration off the line. From the F40: parallel twin turbos, 200mph+ capability and a bit of noise to go with it, plus raw responsiveness without stability control nor ABS second-guessing my intentions (usually - sometimes it takes a while to disable itself). From both: direct ratio steering via a usefully round steering wheel, plus a proper handbrake. I love the clean exterior styling, including the more dynamic Q xenon headlights, and still get a big kick every time I see her, though I may wish that the sharpness of the Q had been echoed by crisper intercooler intakes behind the doors (a la the latest Cayman).

The 996T slaughters those cars (and the vast majority of others with similar or better performance, most Porsches exempted) for reliability, and all the more so once its Achilles heel coolant fittings have been preventatively fixed in place.

I would concede that a 996T doesn't really come alive until driven hard, though losing PSM helps considerably, as does a few mm of toe out, trailbraking out the understeer, and - of course - just driving it harder.

Followed a nice black 993 4S this afternoon heading south on the northern motorway. Nice looking car. I think it was a tipo but can't be sure. I was surprised how quiet the exhaust is but I dear say the driver was only feathering the throttle. Sure did have a purdy butt

Awesome pic Doug (love the way the clouds fan out to mirror the cars) and thanks for taking us along on Targa with you by sharing these as you go. Bit cruel showing the Crown Range though to those us us who likely won't see it again for a while yet.

good day today, well ahead of third place in class and gaining time on leader on crown range both times Unfortunately the last stage cancelled due to 2 cars off the road in the same place-one car being the leader in my class.
Not sure what this means. Find out tomorrow. Here is a pic of the line up on the last stage

If it were a black C4S it was one of 3 in the country (one of them lives in HB). No C2/4S were made in Tipo so would have been a manual or more possibly a stock 993 C2 (can look wide bodied in some scenarios I am often told?).

Graeme. Ill keep my figures crossed for you mate. Sounds like it could be very close to a class win? How many in your class (it looked like 6 but I think I may be mistaken).

Walt. I want what you are smokin my friend. Ive been batching cookies but none of them have been able to make my old Rodeo remind me of an E30 M3 just yet.

Today was a milestone. Nine years after I bought my last new truck it looks like we have finally bought a replacement (test drove it today and quite frankly the least exciting $$$ Ive ever spent on motoring machinery but its a necessary tool here). If you share your recipe Im gonna make this a Huracan :-)!
