I suspect with a simple on-off light you'd already be prepared for the shift so either at, or maybe 50-100 or so rpm under the desired redline. Otherwise, with a single staged light, amber to tell you to get ready, red for shift, red flashing for over-revs. Some discussions on it here (with cars that look a lot like Graeme's):

set b4 max revs - I would set at 7600 or 7700 if only one light - you could go fancy and get multiple - orange then red...

Would trust Graeme - easy enough to further tweak the set points if need be to suit the car once we've tried it.

Better leave time for other owners to comment before committing but here's an old cheat sheet for Integra installation just in case, though newer lights may be simpler.

Thanks Walter. Most shift lights are less than $100. I can use the store credit with Speed factor. However, firstly I'll wait for any feedback.

Btw cage on bb2 would appear to be installed another step forward.

Im not sure they will get more than 3-4 allocations but I do expect in 2015/16 we will see around 7-8 991 GT3 RS registered in NZ.
This was the Wellington Armstrong's showroom last Friday night... with my nose pressed up against the glass and a poor iPhone photo.

Luke. Great photo! The Red one is registered and was sale on TM very briefly a few weeks back. It is a MY2014 car and arrived earlier in the year.

The other two look like new deliveries?

There were 8 delivered MY2014 including mine I believe. 5 were red, two white and one silver.

Most owners backed out of the deal before their cars arrived or in a three instances returned their cars for a full refund when the cars were recalled for 4 months awaiting new engines.

In hindsight (IMHO) this was silly as instead they could have had a very generous financial compensation package from Porsche NZ for their down time as well as a brand new Porsche loan car! I believe only two customers from the 8 took up that offer. Essentially the compensation would have offset most of the first years depreciation!

Of the 8 MY2014, one of those red ones and one white one were on the SI Targa last week. The white one (repurchased from the dealer after the original owner backed out) on the Targa will now be living at Highlands Mortorsports Park as the owner bought a membership and will use it on the track down there.

The MY2015 cars are now arriving. I believe the black one in your picture may be a MY2015. Ron receives his metallic white car in two weeks.

My guess is there will be around 14 NZ new cars in the market by Feb/March. Production evidently finished end of December.

Wow, what a lot of posts in one day. I usually catchup around this time of day.

Targa Tour 2014 in May was plenty fast enough for me in the 07 Boxster S. Interestingly, I think its a bit more fun with less power (eg my setup) after just completing it in a 991 GT3. On one stage the CCC Cayman in front of us had rung out everything the car had yet we were only on a fast cruise in the GT3. So, too good a car = harder to get close to it's capability within the speed limits. A turbo or GT3 I suspect would be less rewarding.... Thus Macca's wise choice to take the 993 instead of the GT3.

So, choose a lower power car for more fun :-)

The Echolight intro 1/2 day event was a flop and was absolutely no comparison to the multi-day events. It was crap so don't draw any comparison or assessment based on that.

My favourite between the SI and NI is the NI as it is more technical and easier to reach the car's maximum capability. It shows in the number of offs between the two events (SI 1/80 and dur to a mechanical failure, NI as high as 10%). Saying that the SI experience, nice open roads, amazing scenery, socialising was very very good and I'd definitely do it again if it repeats.

Paul, I'd love to have you as a co driver again but have asked my son Jeremy who is keen as mustard.

Macca, I'd lend you a car again at the drop of a hat. Unfortunately my Wellington son is using Jan's Subaru and I'll have the Boxster and Cayenne at Oakura. So no spares at that time. Up for a little personal targa touring :-P

Graeme, I've got a little hand held footage of my own but Richard has all the good stage footage which I'll get a copy of in due course. Was nice watching your Crown Range run. We didn't have any complaints of being held up on that stage.... It was a blast. We were right up the a*se of the 3 lead Caymans and it was quick enough.

What's surprising compared to the last two generations of GT3 is that the total number of white cars is unlikely to exceed 30% of delivered cars for the 991 vs 70% with the 997 generation cars. It looks good on every colour I have seen so maybe that is the reason....

Yes, it just looks very right - from every angle. Can't take that for granted these days either. Luckily BMWs are finally free of the Bangle bungle years, but there's only so much that stylists can do to disguise the bluff front ends that EC pedestrian impact standards have brought upon most models.

Thanks Doug. I anticipated you'd be using the Cayenne at the beach so decided to put it out there. If anyone has an option then please PM me.

The Boxster will be all you need for the tour. It will be great bonding time with your son.

Plan your favourite roads for weekend 10/11 we have it baked in the diary. I'll swap keys with you for some of the drive and you can finally go mental in a GT3!

It's a good point Walt. I've been trying to love bMs since the e46 but failing. I'd kill for a 1M dynamically great but has the saggy lower door lines that kill the side asthetic. It's like bangle revisited the office to clean out his desk and made a few quick pen strokes to the cad file before it was pushed to production!

The new cars they IMO have totally screwed up with the front bonnet line. The hood is no longer a clamshell but rather than benefit aesthetically from the freedom that provides they have instead drawn the bumper up higher and created the join between the hood and the body 20% of the way up the nose. Maybe I'm picky. I find their dual clutch isn't quite up to PDK standards and their engines are now mute with turbos with piped in sound for effect. I'm afraid porsche is heading the same way with their base 911 from 2015 a process that already started with the larger more touring car 911 chassis.

Thing is progress has always been like this only in the past it wasn't a problem for me as I was only interested in the cars u could afford which were already 1-2 generations old. But recently I've been looking at it from a new car buyer perspective and this is my ultimate conclusion.

In all of the mainstream production cars on the market today there are only two I would be really interested to own :

Number 1 the 458 speciale
Number 2 the 991 gT3

The Gt3 is half the price of the Speciale!

I have to say Gavin Riches 997 was such a weapon - shame that he had the exhaust/fire problem other wise he may well have been close to the front come day 5 and then anything could have happened. Anyone know if it was an Akrapovic exhaust?

There were a fair few NZ new 996.1 GT3s delivered and most remain unmolestered. I believe there were 14 996.1 GT3 delivered NZ new. I imported the second speed yellow car from Singapore in 2005. There may be a UK import or two floating around. I do not know personally of any Mark 1 that have had significant damage although I believe at least 3-4 have probably seen the panel shop for very minor repairs.

The 996.2 GT3s there were fewer (10). The table below reflects the Mark 2 variants. I know of at least 3 additional imports (1 ex Sing and 2 ex UK). Of the original 10 NZ cars I personally witnessed I think 3 having panel work done over the years. One was silver and one Lapis blue (I said Iris earlies but was mistaken). I cant recall the third. The ex Sing one has led a rough life. Matt owns one of the ex UK cars. There may be others.
I know of 16 996.1 GT3's. Four of which are imports - x2 exSing, x1 exUK and unsure of the other.
As for 996.2 GT3's, I know of 14, the 10 NZ new cars and 4 imports, though one of those has been exported again.
