Ha! I think Ill be getting a 968CS before a 964. If I was to get a 964 it would have to be an RS, then for that money I would start thinking should I be owning a 996 GT3 Mk1? And round it goes . . .

Nik. The black 968CS Abercrombie traded for the yellow 996.1 GT3 is the one to keep an eye out for. He got 38k equivalent trade for that car I believe. The 964RS thing is a red herring IMHO. You could own both the CS and a great 996.1 GT3 for the price of a 964RS, and still have 25k change left over and have a lot more fun on road and track....

John. Thanks for the pictures and posts. Looks good in white! I think you are right - take it slowly. First up looks like you need some decent tyres before heading to the track. Take a look at other peoples race seats and possibly borrow someones driver seat to have fitted for the day at HD to check on comfort (easy job to change the seats back). Once youve identified the right seat the journey can begin....

The Golf lost the garage war. Only room for three Porkers. 1,030 hp waiting to be driven. I can't see this lasting long but it feels good right now.

More like NO IDEA, but seriously this is the height of my 911 affliction. They are all great to drive but I want to be back to two in a reasonably short space of time. The trigger will likely be something like a major repair or a realization that the usage over a certain period doesn't justify the cost incurred.

Shame - if I'd known earlier I would have done you a great swap for our 07 Gti (currently for sale) for your 64T - fair, no? I do know what you mean though, there is a p-car for every occasion and if garage space allowed, well I'd be right there with you.

The GTI is a revelation. My wife wanted a European Stationwagon with leather interior. We went to a dealer saw a GTI with the hatch up and I fitted easily in the passenger seat. Deal done later on Trademe for a one owner '06 with 62km for $22k. Every alloy has scrapes (not sure how could you do all four but that's the case), however importantly it's an honest car. The budget saving has been spent on the C4.

I remember seeing this car for sale in Wellington about 18 months ago for $130K. Current owner taking a bit of a hit.

Too nice to track, this car needs to stay a show pony.........

No way - it needs to be driven and at that price you wouldn't feel bad about it.

John. I'm reading the tea-leaves here and reckon you will sell all three within 12 months and replace with a 997.1 GT3 a car you can use every day around town as well as for longer journeys to the track and touring, Targa with us on November and will still give you all the thrills around a track all the while whilst costing not much more than the value of the two 964s, putting money in your pocket (996TT), and giving you peace of mind knowing you are not risking a museum piece

Maybe Im winding you up.

Matt, thats one nice looking GT3 mate. Low kms, NZ new, Mk2, a colour you could live with and a price thats hard to ignore.

I agree with Peter. The only car in the current rennlister group that even gets close to being qualifying for being a mandatory show pony is Johns 9643.6T. Nothing else is scared enough and especially not that red GT3 which hasn't even been run in yet. At that price you will not treat it with kid gloves either.

These are seriously good value now for playday folks. Ill never be back enough to put more than 200km a year on the track vs 2000km on fast road/targas etc but for you folk who have twilight sessions etc to enjoy buy, use and have fun....

I wouldnt say that. That car has done Targa events in the hands of the Quins (Quin Builders):

http://groundsky.co.nz/index.php?Act...&EntrantID=418

As you can see its been fully caged with race seats etc.
