Wots that Avatar pic.. looks like a wreckers yard
The new avatar signifies either the smartest or stupidest thing I'll do for a while. Smart in that it should be very cool when finished, stupid in that a GT3 is probably cheaper. Still 50/50 on the outcome. I'll tell you which at the end of the year.

Got to be done. Funny how things turn. After my 993, a mk1 GT3 was a dead set certainty but I got off track with the older stuff. You are right, chalk and cheese but I'm chasing the maximum Porsche weirdness experience and an early LHD hotrod does that.

Gentle Annies dispatched this morning at pace in perfect conditions. If I lived in hawkes bay I think I'd drive to taihape for breakfast that way every Sunday. Took a big rock hit on the fender. I think it was worth it. Plenty of footage to shAre. MArtinborogh for afternoon tea. Onto wellie via rimitakas for final push....

I think I've actually got three left (need to double check how many they have pinned), the instructions I supplied were for a 997 GT3 with no engine drop, but having done some more digging it turns out the 996 has two additional fittings (nobody was particular clear until someone posted pictures of all of the manifolds removed from the 996 engine for welding). Hopefully those are easy to get to and it's just the one that requires a slight drop to access. Bit annoyed with myself now, because I'll be up for a second round of labour to remove all the guff off the top of the engine to get access.
I haven't had a fitting blow yet, I'm doing it before any let go as I mostly run the car on the track and having them go mid corner could be extremely bad for me or someone behind me.

In Nelson for the night. Not much driving today but we got some road works with a stop/go man and quite a wait. Meant the road was clear ahead for us as we were in the front of the queue. That was fun through the twisties in the forest.

Yip. Big Rock. Dented the fender!
955km down since leaving home yesterday morning 8am. Some truly memorable drives today including a good chunk of the road from HB to Taihape which was empty and some good back roads down the back of Masterton. We ended up on Route 52 Doug. Not sure how that happened but it didnt seem so bad once you picked up the pace., Maybe 4-5 really bad subsidence spots but the old car had no dramas keeping up with the newer PASM equipped stuff.
Now in WTGN (Bolton). Weather seems settled. Greymouth tomorrow. Then the Posse in FJ. Drive safe guys...

Mind you the drive to FJ and then next day down through Haast is worth waiting for.
Also just finalising some of the accommodation and turns out the motel owner in Chch is a Porsche fan as well - has had a Boxster S for 18 months. She's looking forward to the photo ops and will make sure we have plenty of parking.
Nice photos guys - keep em coming for another 24 hours!

Z221's do a great job of flicking up stones. Soft compound makes a great centrifugal stone launcher. I've learnt to leave space behind John although we're mounting a gopro on my windscreen today to get some footage of John so hopefully we experience good seal while filming today. Nelson to Reefton to Hamner Springs today. 350km
