Yes 993s have knock sensors. When you run Motec or Link you typically no longer use them. The factory sensors are too low resolution for modern ECUs and other than high hp japense turbo installations interesting few NA Motec tuned engines use them. Downside is less latitude for bad fuel....

Ive enquired into AvGAs and will get pricing, octane rating and availability for anyone interested.

Paul, check your handbook. if you have option code M150 on there you do not have Cats and can run race fuel blend too. Runs real nice on a 30% Avgas blend (I used to run this car with Avgas blend exclusively between 2006-2009 until after Kumeu gas station stopped selling it!). Of course I would only recommend it to folk wanting to go more than 7/10ths. What arms race?

just a quick search showing no 98 in queenstown either? man this logistics is getting hard. remember you can't transport more than 250 litres either. I am towing so can take enough fuel for the track car and tow car doesn't need 98 so can probably get by ok until timaru if full up

Might be able to get Allied a local firm and I thought a mobil agent/distributor to get in a supply of mobil 98?

Just about to post the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like NO 98 now available in Queenstown since 2011 when BP pulled out.

Major problem for anyone running at the track. I guess we can all get away with 96 for the road but im not running on anything less than 98 at the track. Ill be stocking up on Avgas in Invercargill for sure. Lobve to know how stuff like the 997 TTS, 991 GT3 etc will fair not having 98 for basically half the SI part of the trip! What a logistics nightmare!

Graeme that will be good. Im hooking up Avgas supply in Southland. I know the owner of the largest Helo business in the SI and Im pretty sure they must beable to help out with some contacts...

The great thing is AvGas runs 108-110 RON (104 MON) and you will only need 15L for a full tank to blend with 96 top make 100. So 2 x 20l each will do for Highlands + Teretonga plus the return journeys.

Only problem is Avhas no good if you have 02 sensors or cats in your car. Paul Im pretty sure you are OK. Maybe the older 964s too and Petes 944. the new gear wont work with it without fouling the cats and lambda sensors...

I see a bit of a theme starting. Feels like this is an end of an era (one which I've only just joined!) with 98 disappearing across the country. Trips such as this will be almost impossible to make due to not having the ability to fill.

Slowly our natural habitat is being encroached on, and our roaming radius is being reduced. Feel like a Sumatran native...

I can't speak for Pete or Dave, but at the time of the NITT my best time at HD was a full 6 seconds slower than Steve's subsequent circulation in the same car set up.

As the weight reductions become more difficult (expensive) to achieve development of the driver is going to be more and more a factor. It's like waiting for alignment of the planets but I'm determined to take up Simon's offer of him flying up to HD for a day. He can set me a new benchmark (Steve only had one session so we know the car can go faster) and spend a day improving my technique. Now where did that second Heigo end up?

Tell me again why we're eschewing the use of octane boosters?

Just want to point out (incase it seems on here like Im being rude) that I had this space booked in over a month ago. I hate the car sitting around there for months on end like it often does so told them I wanted it in there no longer than a week. They started Wednesday with the wheels, a service and oil change and during the SITT inspection we made the call on the pads (Thursday) so it has been longer in the shop than I anticipated unfortunately but now there part is done. I trust it wont slow down your work too much. Sorry about that. Yes keen to go 1/2, or 3rds or whatever on a bottle of SFR from SITT. Id imagine we are all using it these days.
I was just joking Macca. Got a nice bite though :-P. You'll get used to me LOL

Ive jhust learned there are no 98 service stations in Southland! If that is true Im in big trouble as I cant run my car at the track on anything less than 98 (its tuned on 98 and has no knock sensors so will run way lean on the track on 96 - highly not advised by the tuner).

Is anyone bringing down any Jerry Cans? Shoould we be buying a 20L plastic container each in Queens-town and taking it with us to Ivercargill? Not that it would last long....
Our sites (Caltex) only do 95 so no help there. My research also has the same conclusion - most accessible 98 through BP Connect is Timaru. Also at Dunedin but that's a haul. We do run a couple of BP sites so will have a chat to my HO contact and see if any options.

What do the racers use? I would have thought some facility allied to the tracks?

Pete has the Pejero and a trailer, so we can stock up on 20l cans of 98.........

Might have to buy 5 each.......
Looking like a Holden Rodeo instead at the moment. Not sure how happy I'd be in a car with 200 litres of high octane fuel in the back!!! And you can have wheels or fuel - but not both!!

Don't forget, with 5 groups running I think we will only be getting 5 sessions per track. So only 10 sessions total to cope with (plus driving in between). And at 7/10ths you'll probably have half a tank left at the end of the day
