It's easy. Just make sure the car has stopped before you try

Btw - Paul, sorry mate but you were outed... When we put the old tyres in your garage the new boots on the 993 were noticed! Its probably going to cost you shoes or whatever currency your wife accepts!

Looks like Nulon Pro-Strength Octane Booster would do the job, but it'll cost you another $29 per fill.

964 with OEM chip is actually fine for 95 RON. However good to know I have an option to put the 98 RON chip in with the Nulon, if it's needed to keep up with the Arms race.

Yeah, chip is easy to change on the run. need a screwdriver set with ratchet head not much space under the seat.

Pete the Rodeo should be relatively empty in the back tray if we all wear our track shoes on the way down to and from Invercargill.

Matt. With your new Cats I wouldnt risk anything other than an octane booster. Both Bob Homewood who installed my ECU in his race shop and Torque Performance who did the tune warned against using octane boosters due to them being dirty and fouling injectors and other components and not making anywhere near the advertised octane gains. That being said in an emergency I wouldn't hesitate to give them a go. Basically the whole of the West coast route from Nelso South is 98 devoid which means even at Rons speeds will probably be best to use something. May have to buy a few bottles of that stuff as back up.

Im going to buy 20-30L of Avgas in Invercargil before Teretonga. I figure if I use 10-L for a tank there and save 10L for a tank at Highlands will just see me through. Leaves me enouight for a tank of touring.

What do racers do? They use the recommended AvGas supplier in Invercargill where I got the details. Or they bring their own fuel. Tony Quinn has recognised the big issue here and is currently installing a servo selling 96,98 and 100 Octane fuel at his race track.

Here is AirBPs coverage. I have all the addresses and numbers.

NZ AVgas is 100 MON (104 RON) I believe but Jason may beable to confirm.

The manual says you can run 91 (!), so should be fine on 95. I'll probably grab a few bottles of the Nulon anyway. I had assumed most "performance" fuel additives are bogus, but it looks like Nulon is the real deal (although it only adds ~2.8 octane, not the claimed 7, when used with 95). (Test results from a magazine article: http://www.elanfactory.com.au/pdf/te...%20booster.pdf)

91/95 on the road maybe if you are tootling around on half throttle. On the track I doubt it would be wise to run it on less than 98. Interestingly the new GT3 states 98 on fuel flap and in race manual says use min RON 98/Mon93 for track use.

AvGas is a beauty tho. Especially leaded LOL! I ran my DRZ400 on it here as have a made with a R44+R66 Helo so no issues getting it. The 993 used to run nice and strong on it in NZ too but does have a very different smell!

Might have to get some of that Nulon stuff as a back up. Is it readily available?

Super cheap auto have it on their site.

In my days at Ohakea there were occasional checks for "green river" being added to mechanics cars. If a plane had a tank change you generally don't put the fuel back in the tank afterwards so it was borderline waste.

Looks like Macca and I were both emailing the Playday guys re the same issue - Tony say's that 98 is available at the Highlands Track. That's a benefit of having car on trailer - it will still be full when we get to Invercargill!

Doug, your car was still in the CCS lot this morning. What are they doing to the suspension/alignment?

Herman is an easy drive with road tyres and the SUV height. On the other hand the Turbo 3.6 drives like a pig with its seized shock. I certainly hope I'm doing the right thing going harder as it tiresome driving a car that is hard as nails, which the Turbo 3.6 is right now.

John the springs wont make it harder. The shocks ultimately control that. The springs control rebound and compression (as well as road height).

Pete. Yes I had an email in with Tony same time. 98 will be available on the track day at Highlands (bouser). No 98 in Queenstown, Invercargill or surrounds. He suggested the same Avgas place that I have contacted in Invercargill.

Good point about having a car on a trailer. Damn. While the rest of us are travelling 100s and 100s Km tourng on our precious hi octane you will be conserving fuel! Nice fuel strategy Pete!

Paul. You dont need to change chip if your car shows M150 option on build sheet (means no O2 sensors, no Cat and Vitron head gaskets).
