Just calling it as i see it.

On our NITT I had the play ways bloke who was sending us out tell me on the last session that he and the boys had loved working that day disturbing to the 993 throttle blipping at the end of the front straight. At manfield I had three people approach me whilst waiting in the pits to go out complimenting the sound - one saying it was the best sounding car of the day! Looking back on johns clips I reckon it was definitely the most lemans sounding car in the group....

That said I preferred the RSRs on the car and the idle before the cams.

Actually this makes for an interesting video.

IMPO the early 911 sounds best, the 964 RS and surprissingly the 993 are next best. The 996 sounds like a jappa, and the 991 sounds like it will rip your head off...........

At full throttle, yes I would agree your car sounds best.........

One for the 993 and 964 boys...................

http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...great-of-a-car

John - post no 4 is a compelling argument for the 964, but post no 7 where the rear 3/4 view of a 993 is compared to Pipa Middleton's *** in that brides maid's dress, sums up perfectly why the 993 is the far superior car..........

Pete - there is even a strong case for red Cayman's further down the thread..........it's quite a funny read..........

Yeah. The cams ruined the idle sound. I was warned that overlap is a problem for sound.

Here it is 3 years back before the cams but with the Dach X and RSRs.

I think the 991 GT3 will surprise you fellas with its sound on the track. Its the best sounding factory stock 911 for the last 2-3 decades according to many who heard it in anger.

You will all get a chance to find out on the 27th at Puke, although t will still be being run in so maybe only up to 7500 rpm. The last 750 rpm before the 9K limiter are killer.

I wanted to go out and film it at night with the Go pro on the suction mount above the rear exhaust pipes so I could get the flames spitting from them as they did in that Evo youtube clip....but Joanna said I was being childish! We wll do that on the SITT!

This video even has some driving, no farting about in parking lots.

Hi all,

The CGT at CCS is mine. You are dead right re the tyres - a new set of Super Sports are sitting at CCS about to be fitted. I am also getting a set of AWE straight pipes installed so it should sound loud.

The far has only done 3,000km so rarely gets used. It will be at CCS for a while as the pipes are being made in the US at the moment and it has a big service lined up. Feel free to take a look if you want.

Cheers

Matt

Great choice of tyres, somewhat jealous they're available N-rated and in appropriate sizes for the CGT... I'm stuck with moving to 19" wheels to get the correct sizes.

The V10 will sound insane with straight pipes, should be a riot!

Thanks for the invite. Fortunately / unfortunately I'm based in Napier so it's not that easy. if there is ever a track day in Taupo I would be all over it though.

Don't worry Matt, we've already taken the liberty. CCS is like a train station with our group going through on a daily basis. Nothing escapes us.

Had to get my beauty sleep so missed out on the late night discussion.

Exhaust noise is subjective and I sense it wasn't a Porsche directive to have their street cars be 'noisy' when new. The flat six is distinctive enough but I like some menace in it without becoming a neighborhood pest. It's a very delicate balance. The primary bypass on the 964 does it for me. I'm sure it can be changed with other options but unless I could have it switchable like the new cars I won't be going that route.

BTW I now also know I can take it another level for few just by removing the 02 bung. I may do that this weekend for a laugh as I will be playing with the GoPro in anticipation of filming the SITT.

Paul, you are not a Pippa man
