Matt. Im curious as to what top speeds your GPS logger have you for the front straight at HD last weekend. Granted it was wet Im sure it wasnt the 220-225kmph suggested by Paul but curious none the less what the .6GT3 was pulling peak down the straight? How did the overall lap times compare to the 964C2?

I didn't have my data logger running as I didn't want to push it in the wet and being the first time on that track in that car and second time out overall, and I had passengers for every session. I also drove like a nana most of the day after seeing a car go into the wall down the front straight early in the day. The time I mentioned earlier was from frame stepping one of the few sessions my GoPro recorded properly. There's a lot of time left to pick up with more confidence in the car, practice, better weather and perhaps fresher tyres, so it's hard to say much about the lap times vs the 964 C2 at this stage. I was letting Dave in my old 964 by early in the day because I had so little confidence in the Cups!

Hoping for better weather on the 30th. I'm trying to book Ray for that day, so hopefully that works out but it's a bit short notice I suspect.

Sure. But you must have a feel for how quick it is compared to the 964 no?

When/if you see Ray on the 30th can you tell him Ive been repeatedly emailing him to find out if he will be available for hire during the NI track tour and as yet no response after three emails. We need to get an instructor on board to help with unknown tracks and keep Prestigio happy and if we cant confirm Ray by month end we will have to start looking elsewhere (Tim Martin etc)

Well, the difference between the first few days in the 964 and what I ended up with was something like 6-7 seconds... so from experience it's too early to say much. It's a much quicker car in every respect, but it requires a different style of driving and I haven't even begun to get a handle on that yet.

With new capabilities comes new problems, like the brakes being so much better that I've got to consciously avoid over-slowing for corners. From a quick glance at the speedo, I don't think my corner speeds were any higher in the GT3 on Cups than they were in the 964 on road tyres (yet).

I'll pass that on to Ray if I see him... no guarantees he'll respond to my request either, though.

Damn that's cheap, and lots of options too. I bet HD doesn't have that many free days over the next couple of months.

At that price I'd definitely be interested, weekday or weekend.

Been away most of last week for work but had the good fortune to be passing by Cromwell so thought it would be good to check it out sHighlands Motorsport Park so briefly went through the museum and then had a taxi ride around the track in the Cayenne. This is some track and for those on the South Island Tour March next year it will be worth the price of the whole thing for this day alone! It will take a bit to get up to speed and the concrete wall around the outside of the fast RH sweeper will keep everybody cautious and gradually build up speed rather than attack first up. Hope its not a wet day!

Thanks Graeme. Good feedback. Ive read alot about Highlands and its definitely the highlight of the trip trackwise for me. You may want to have a look at CarreraSport site and catch up on the latest suggestion for itinerary and accommodation. The thought has now swung to perhaps using Queenstown for a base for 4 nights then CHCH for three making the logistics easier and the ability for wifes to find something to do while we are at the track more likely. Its a good plan....

I was just peaking 206km/hr if that's any help to you according to the driftbox, but certainly braking too early so maybe would be 210-15ish with some proper driving?

That's interesting data. I don't think my 993 could manage any more than 200kmph even with an experienced driver down that straight. The data from my sessions on the 29th showed Paul clocked 196 there for a 1.20 lap in the 993. I imagine the 964s pedalled hard are getting 190-195. The silver 3.8 GT3 was pulling 220 from memory (John may recall the data point). He must have been running 1.15 laps if not better as he was overtaking all of us with ease. Its obviously largely a horsepower/torque equation for the straight (assuming you come out of the sweeper with some nice speed)....

The handheld radar clocked Peter at 188, your 993 at 193 (can't recall if you or Paul was driving), Chris B in his 944 race car at 193 and Neil at 220 in his 3.8 GT3. It was remarkably consistent lap after lap. I may not have been measuring the Vmax point and certainly would have been on an angle, however slight. In other words all they can be used for is a relative speed reference. It would be great if we had some data from different cars to compare around the track.

Thanks John. No I dont think Paul was driving in that session. My monit recorded a top speed of 196 for the day (and its verified accurate) so Im assuming that was one of Pauls laps.

Its definitely interesting data. Probably a bit academic for us right now but interesting none the less!

That sounds right for me. Last time out in the 944 I was in the 1.17's on my quicker laps and hitting just over 190km's on the straight. Last time out I was hitting 210km's in the Turbo, but on road tyres and pads and braking very early, Matt definitely had me under brakes.

Impressive straight line speed for less than $50k. What did that translate into in terms of lap time?
