The old rule of thumb for chargeout rate used to be 3x the tech payrate. Rationale was 1/3 for the tech, 1/3 for the shop, and 1/3 for the owner. Depends on whether you charge out gross or net hours I guess, net hour rates tend to be 30% higher than gross on the basis of 75% of time being chargeable. Not sure where that leaves us tho!
