Correct Jake. Its a wonder drug with a known side effect. Long term usage can cause damage to the stomach wall. I personally use it very sparingly, a couple each morning before a targa, track day. Over here you can buy it mixed with Co-dine as a pain relief/anti inflammatory. One/two of those bad boys would sort out an injury such as Petes temporarily but effectively. Ibuprofen can make you drowsy but in small doses taken early in the day is no issue. We picked up a tub of 750 x 200mg tablets in Costco Wholesale in LA a few years back for $12.95. Costco rocks!

I cant believe how much tasty machinery is on this years Tour. 70 participants. Ive seen BMW3.0CSL (e46), Many Astons and Lambos, Gt3s+RS, 2 x 964s! Id have to say 35% of the field must be Porsches. We really need to make a big effort to participate in the next event as we can - apart from Ron/Pastsy and Richard and the other targa regulars that is. Id love to see a 964 out to join my 993 in May!

Paul I have just requested to join the closed user group PCNZ facebook for the 6th time in 3 years (under my business name). Ive been promised over the years (even by David the Fish) that someone would authorise it. Maybe someone could finally do that. As my elected PCNC representative maybe you could flick an email to those in the know to please accept my request to join the group so I can finally see what is going on. They dont make it easy to join. The closed group is flawed when you have 650 members - people dont always have FB accounts under their full registered membership name after all....;-)

I enjoyed your write up of the weekend Peteamd agree that I need some laps of Puke before the races. Let me know if you are going on the 5 th and I will join you. I have yet to test the brakes with no ASB and therefore think that your advice is good as you have the experience. I am under no illusions that I have a race car which will need a lot of effort and time for me to master. But that's part of the challenge. Hope I'm up to it.
Enjoyed the pictures Doug. You are multi-talented.

Too right. We're finding the stages in the GT3 a bit boring. My theory is these stages are too flowing and the car too capable so it feels like we are just going to the airport in a taxi. However, in a less capable car with less power, non PDK I think these stages would be more of a blast.

I'm keen on the NI Targa again. Would love to take the 964 but don't want to risk losing it. The Boxster S is a good blast and is replaceable.

Don't mind in the least. Share away.

And if anyone wants to go to the trouble of downloading from FB and posting them on RL go ahead. It's impractical for me to do so with their iOS still broken after many months.

FB is great for this sort of thing as you can tag people, like and make comments whereas a forum is more synchronous and limited IMO.

Agreed Doug. Doing the Targa in the GT3 doesnt really appealed to me personally. I still want a sweaty back after a hard drive and get it a bit on the edge from time to time.

Its not the roads nor the cars capability thats the issue IMO. Its the 150kmph speed restriction you are facing. In Europe I drove 1000s KMs on my own in the hills on similar roads to the ones you are driving and the car didnt come alive on the fast flowing stuff until 170kmph. Its the same issue with any of todays hi po performance hardware really.

In NZ if want to scare myself in the GT3 I go for a drive on my own up North on some quiet windy roads. The track is the only other place I can get it closer to the cars performance ability.

Previously (at least in 2012 but probably not a few years before when Brent McCarthy had his big off) it was pretty much "just keep it under 200" . Only those of us in the less powerful cars probably did however! I believe now they have full trackit in all cars and monitor this more closely which is a bit of a shame. Even in the 993 we would have been consistently between 170-180 between the corners.

I can only imagine how frustrating that speed restriction much be in a V12 Aston or a Lambo Huracan etc.

I think perhaps the Tour is becoming a bit to popular for its own good. No longer a "cult" thing, but now having to become PC as well as eventually we all knew it would. Its a dangerous pursuit without cage and head protection above 150 kmph I agree. I would personally rather wear the protective gear and have the half cage to be allowed to drive faster.

You have it spot on. Not only do we have trackit, we now have a full time person in Auckland watching the Tour car speeds. Sneak over 160k and you are pinged with a fine.
