It was great to meet you. We had an impressive turn out on Saturday with 5-6 "drop ins" during the day to make it a real social thing - alot of good spirit flowing around teh place even though the day wasnt perfect conditions and temp wise.
I look forward to repeating it all again for 3 days on the trot in September...

Thanks Graeme. Its only when revisiting it on video that the speed becomes apparent to me. I resisted taking the car out all day as the speed delta ofver the 993 I am more familiar with was worrying me. Also it was only my second time at HD after an 18 month gap and we had reduced sessions that day. However I needn't have been concerned. The overwhelming feeling as those who talked to me after getting out of the car was not "how fast" it felt but "how brilliantly within the limits of safety" it felt. By lap 5 my front tyres were reading 40 psi (factory road says 29 psi @ 20 celcius). The rears were close to the same (factory says 33). I had zero tyre management as the car had sat idle since it arrived at 8am at 1.5 Celcius! In the 993 over cooking the tyres to such a huge margin would have made the car really greasy (rears noticeably under braking and oversteer at front). In the 991 GT3 the chassis is so brilliant and stiff and there is so little understeer that the car remained very controllable. I didnt get anywhere near the limit with the car whereas with the 993 on the previous session the car was much closer to the edge. I was just building up speed from lap 3-8 (one slow one in there when I backed up for some slower cars) but even under brakes from 231 kmph there was so much composure you never once felt your were in any danger - much less danger than a 1.17 lap in the 993.
Interestingly I studied the Racelogic txt files this evening to find the max deceleration g force in the 993 was almost the same as the 991 GT3 (1.15-1.18G). the 993 now has absolutely solid brakes (SFR, bigger discs, way bigger pads/calipers and Endless pads instead of my normal factory road pads). That said the GT3 is a huge step up and I was clearly braking earlier and lighter than I could have. There is alot more reserve in the brakes/chassis.
One of the things about the PDK was that I could concentrate exclusively on braking and steering meaning cleaner lines (not necessarily the correct lines mind you as still learning the track) and exploratory braking. A different line on turn 10 yielded 0.4s and backing off over the rise too much cost 0.35s so you can start to really attack your entry/exit/throttle and braking points as you have a bit more bandwidth for that even though things happen quicker.
Its a barrel of fun in a different way than the 993. I still enjoy both but I really appreciate most of all the easy at which the GT3 could take what I gave it and how forgiving it was. I should think a seasoned pilot who has had some 997 Cup car time (like Mike Eady etc) would be putting that car around HD in late 1.11s without too much drama even in total road trim with the tyres it was shipped on etc.

The wheels should come up pretty well with some graft. However, from the outset you'll have to expect imperfections as there will be some marks and probably some pitting thats filled with brake dust that just wont remove by hand unless the wheels are taken apart and restored properly. If wheels aren't regularly cleaned the dust can be a bugger to get off completely. That said, you might be surprised how well they do
I'd probably do a wheels off clean so you can get into the backside of them. I find artists paint brushes of various sizes with the bristles cut down make good tools for the tight areas

I wanted to see a dual next time
(both cars capable of low 13's)
Would be interesting to see the differences (Steve would have to be quicker in corners as I can't see him doing 130-something over the top)

Here's a little clip for some fun - features Ralf and friends. Phil stars here, Richard Snow is in the distance and I think shortly after the clip ends Chris M plays a role...
Ill stop boring you all now. Just getting an overdose on broadband fibre (50mBPS). I cant believe Ive done almost 150GB of upload to the cloud in only 4 days!

I dont think Steves 964Cup is a fair comparo. Ive got 80 laps at HD to my name and 9 in the GT3 and I was at 40 psi on the front tyres (factory spec is 29 at 20c) by the 5th or 6th lap (fastest was lap 7 with traffic). I lost my bottle already for the hill (my fastest over the top was less than session 3 in the 993 before I had the "moment"!) and my turn 10 was all double apex till I tried on the 7th lap a different line which clearly suited the GT3 better. Braking too early on 1, 2 and 5. Im one of the least experienced in the "regular group" at HD (well probably full stop really) and Id have to say without trying to sound like Im boasting that if I had have run the car for the day 993 and been managing the tyre pressures between sessions that a 1.13.00 should have been achievable first day out. I think its probably a 1.12.00 with a bit more practice, but maybe it will need a better driver. Most of the guys I know who are tracking them are finding them around 1-1.5s a lap quicker than there lightly track modded 997.2 GT3RS on R6s in the states out of the box on MPSC2. They have moved the game on. When a total noivice like me can almost put in a 13 on his first time out, full tank (just been filled at Drury on the way down), cold car on street tyre pressures you have to wonder what someone like Rasso could do in that car once its run in. Talking of run in it has 450km run in Kms on the clock and I know from Europe the engine loosened up nicely and was smoother and felt stronger after 2500 km...looking forward to playing with it at Taupo (still have alot to learn there!) and Manfield in Sept!
Comparing it to Steves 964 isnt doing Steve or his car justice. Even if the GT3 becomes 1.3s a lap quicker in my hands at HD over he in his, the achievement is monumental in favour of the 964 you have to say. The difference becomes evident only when you turn the heated buckets o, load up your favourite Floyd track on the 235W stereo throw it into slush box mode and drive back to Auckland on a rainy dark motorway night like we did after and feel totally relaxed when you get home...

Is anyone here interested in 2 tickets to The Rolling Stones concert in Auckland in November? Happy to sell them at a small discount on advertised price, I think they may be all sold out now in any case?
Please let me know if you are interested....

Thought this might be of interest.
The Sony actioncam was too high so I have subsequently reduced the height a couple of inches to improve the visibility.

haha, therein lies the dark side of detailing I suspect your correct. The lip looks polished. Some are cleared as well, though i'm not sure about speedlines. Right now the NZD is as high as its going to get IMO and if you are thinking about buying GBP, EURO or USD for a future car purchase offshore then Id start converting your cash now.
There are some great deals to be had on nearly new gear, and specialist stuff like that magic 3.5L you posted. Power to weight on that thing would have to be almost as good as a 997.2 GT3 and it has some very trick/expensive suspension which would bring it on par cornering wise....
