Absolutely, just talking autos. Though, nothing beats the Viper in a manual trans for me.

But the GS is by far the star of the C7 series IMO.

Which C8 thread got moved and where did it go? What was the official reason/explanation? I lost count at 7 C8 threads on RL. There are probably a dozen of them by now.

The more I think/read about the C8 the more I realize that 3600lb is at least 300lb more than I would ever want in a sports car. HP is irrelevant when you're flying into a corner. Still, I would definitely test drive one a year from now when they start filling the lots.

You guys are starting to remind me of the Kool-Aid drinkers over on the Corvette forum.
I spent about 9 months over there researching the C7 with one eye on the C8.

Don't research a car before purchase.. buy one and accept all the deficiencies as a gift from GM.
Don't ask questions.
Don't point out gaping holes in their story.
Don't worry about it.. here have some more Corvette Kool-Aid.

If I was shopping for a car in the 60's I would buy an early gen 991 coupe. I just love P cars.
Here's the comparison with just a few factors:

I can't say that the C7 Z06 was a better car than the 991.1 GT3 (Porsche build quality is second to none) but I can say with a great degree of certainty that it was a much faster track car.

The .1 GT3 was not Porsche's best GT car effort, the HP wars had accelerated much faster than they anticipated from the time of the 997.2 and by consequence by the time the 991.1 came out it was lagging behind its competitors, especially the Z06. I had a 15 and 16 Callaway (both manuals so no overheating issues) and those cars were track monsters. Harder to put down the power than a GT3 because of all the extra torque but in the hands of equally good drivers the GT3 could never keep up.

We'll have to wait for the C8 Z06 and 992 GT3 versions to come out to do a true comparison. The C8 that was unveiled the other day is analogous to the base 992 Carrera, so that comparison can be made pretty soon.

I am starting to think that black is the way to go.

Had an interesting text exchange with my son about the new vette yesterday. I'll never own one, nor will he, but he thought the new look was pretty sharp. I don't and it's because essentially it looks nothing like a vette. A vette should always have the motor in the front and at least make some attempt at maintaining the look of the original. To me, it would be like moving the flat 6 motor of a 911 to the front of the car and completely changing its original look. The new vette look similar to a Ferrari or the new NSX or insert some other car here that looks similar. My neighbor across the street has a 2016 vette and I like the look. He thinks the new vette looks retarded and shares my position on the design. Wonder what long time vette enthusiasts think.

I predict that after 3-5 years of production that Chevy reverses course and changes the vette back to something that resembles all versions up to the new one.

^ Yes, black or that dark grey. They would hide and tone down the multiple sharp edges and black plastic trim the best. The car's proportions are nice -- would have looked much nicer if it was a little bit "softer" and more flowing around the edges. Black and dark gray soften up the edges which is why they look the best, to me.

I read somewhere that the z06 and zr1 will be turbo and turbo/hybrid. Hopefully the GS will stay NA because i really don’t want a turbo car. The base Vette might be the right choice unless the GS is non turbo.

I don't see how they can add DOHC twin-turbo, much less a hybrid to an already heavy base car at 3600lb without some serious weight cutting measures. Can a car weigh 4000lb and still be a sports car? We'll see...

I suspect we will see a Corevette SUV in the future. That appears to be the only way for most brands to survive.

My brother and I used to fix and restore Corvettes as a hobby business, until it got too expensive to continue. Every generation of Vette has a very loyal following, that considers every other generation an abomination for one reason or another. New people will buy the new Vette, nothing will change, the cycle will continue.

I think it will be a 4.4l engine. I believe the weight difference was only 70lbs. I have watched a few videos and read a bunch, so this could be wrong.

I doubt both. So much crazy speculation on the base C8 ,before it came out, that was dead wrong.

They wont attempt that many new engineering feats with this new mid engine corvette, just adapt their existing engine designs to a mid engine layout.
