I think it will take sales off the Cayman in the US and thats about it. Looks like a great effort from Corvette - I would, certainly try one in addition to but not instead of . Having said that I would take a PDK 718GT4 over this .

I think this is really a game changer, as has been said.

I'm 35. Never in my life have I been interested in owning a corvette... now, I'm hoping Chebby sells a fark ton of these as I suspect they will so I can pick one up off the secondary market in 5-10 years.

The dichotomy between pricing on a 992S is still a lot, but I would imagine the base 992 is going to be within around 20k of a z51.
I do think the C8 is going to be several hundreds of pounds more than a 992 and 400-500 pounds heavier than a 718 Cayman/Boxster and that will be meaningful in terms of dynamics and handling.
Overall, the C8 seems pretty compelling.
The weight information they published suggests it is lighter than a 992.

I had an old Toyota MR2 years ago. It didn't have any nannies, but didn't have much horsepower, either. It still spun like a top faster than you can wet yourself, if you screwed up!

My local dealer is MSRP however the list is very long.... they started taking deposits when news broke that the C8 would be mid engine.

But seriously - Corvette is a great car outright and a hell of a bargain. I bought my Mom a C7 Gransport for Christmas - excellent car and she loves it.

Does 3RS offer 4x the performance? No way. 4x the value? Well, not for every consumer but i’d argue it does for the buyer who wants a GT car. GT cars offer the x-factor - handling, feedback, fit and finish, the glorious motor in the GT3, and the unquantifiable cool factor. I’m the first to admit a loaded 3RS with ADM is hard to justify strictly with numbers but there’s not another car in the world i’d rather have and it’s a bargain to me at 4-5x the cost of American muscle.

Over stylized. Could have been better if more subtle styling. An exotic isn't an exotic just because it looks fast and has 17 scoops and winglets. It's exotic because it's rare/expensive.

As a teenager/college kid, the corvette was the target car. I don't think I could own one now. I don't need 500hp unless I'm tracking it (and probably not even then). 20 years later, I'd take the exclusivity and balance of a 997 over the corvette.

Each powertrain layout has it's pros & cons. A mid-engine layout is excellent for balance and handling, but as mentioned, once it spins, because it has equal weight distribution, it spins like a top. The rear engine layout of the 911s has excellent traction with the engine over the driving wheels, but when you start throwing that rear weight bias sideways, it wants to keep going sideways, which is why the 911 layout is more "playful" - it doesn't actually want to spin, it just wants to go sideways. The front engine car with rear wheel drive (pre-C8 Corvettes and Vipers as examples) struggle to get their power down on the road because they are front weight biased. This makes them pretty easy to break loose in the rear, but you have less weight swinging around back there so a bit easier to catch in a slide since most of the mass is up front which is still going in the intended direction. It's actually kind of challenging to rear drift a mid-engine car and they are more likely to 4-wheel drift. I learned to do this with my first car, which was a 914 - it's handling was so balanced, it was very difficult to even get it to wiggle in the rear unless it was wet outside, but you knew when you exceeded the cornering capability threshold as the whole car would drift sideways - as long as you reacted quickly and correctly, you could prevent the spin and slide the whole car.

If all the electronic nannies in this new Vette can be switched off, there are going to be plenty of wrecks and spins because it's cheap enough where anyone with some means can go buy one, many of which have no experience in a mid-engine RWD car, and aren't going to be able to react fast enough when it does let go to prevent the spin.

loan me one for thunderhill in august for a 3 day event on the 5 mile course - 5 30 min DE sessions a day - i’m sure it will lap just fine - what i’m looking for is it to last all 3 days like my gt3 - only then should anyone consider it!

Provided GM has it's quality ducks in a row I can't imagine buying a 718 Cayman S. The GT3 market penetration will be a bit different. I believe most have a multi level connection with their GT3. Give it a year and see how it shakes out. On the other hand the Z06 version could be a serious threat.

Here is another interesting perspective. I know when I have my GT4 services I get the best dealer experience I've had IMO.

Provided I fit in it, If I can try a Z51 at Sebring in the Summer and I can empty tank after tank for two days - and it’s still running, I buy two.

Get ready for the crazy ADM.....this is going to be the sad part. I am sure there will be good volume dealers but unlikely going to happen with launch model (especially in CA)

no doubt the car is quick - i trust chevy to get that right and the handling/braking - i want to be able to just flog it and not have any limp mode problems — my criteria is 30-35 min DE sessions with 45-60 min between sessions - and zero problems...if they do that sign me up!
