I am looking forward to seeing this live. I have never been a big fan of Corvette styling but it looks pretty good in the pictures. For ~$60,000 would be a great car to beat the **** out of it. Take it golfing, leave it outside, park it any where, any Valet can have the keys ect. ect.
Each subsequent Vette has been more appealing and this one makes a big leap forward. It's a little more angular than I'd like and I'm not keen on the Camaro taillights but I'm sure it'll look better in the flesh. I suspect it'll draw potential buyers from all the hi-performance brands, Porsche included. Anyone looking at a Cayman or Boxster has to consider the very large price gap and almost certain performance gap. Looking forward to the GS version....
I think it is fair to say that the base Corvette won't challenge the top tier super cars, but the z06 and zr1 definitely will. Still a great showing for a base model especially at this price point. And spec'd up right it looks way better than the best looking C7 Z06/Zr1 imo. I think there is also the nationalistic pride factor of knowing that an American company pulled something like this off. I feel like I want to give them my money at this point.
I just hope the reviews are good!
Agree.
Also, Toyota buyers looking at the new supra will prob think twice now given the price and numbers this C8 is putting out.
I have never cross-shopped a Corvette when considering my sports cars, this C8 has me reconsidering. If the performance and reliability hold up, then the Z06 edition is definitely on the list for a track car!
My thoughts too. I am 38, and never once considered a vette once the z06 turned into a track day turd.
I am also not beat up about the lack of a manual transmission. After doing so much go-karting and more recently sim racing, I am not that big a fan of a MT any longer, and I can heal and toe with the best of them. I would buy one of these to gut and cage for a track car anyways. Hopefully the aftermarket figures out the engine and transmission cooling by then. I am thinking 3 years from now for that sort of project...
The aftermarket figured out the cooling on the Z06 years ago. Whether people commit to the actual fix is something else. Describing the Z06 as a track day turd is false and strangely off-base.
What chevy did not do well is take the heat out of the oil fast enough. Even the stock Z51 C7 gets its oil hot on a track - and can use additional cooling.
Besides the engine going to the middle, nothing has changed in the Corvette world from a branding/pricing/performance perspective. The car has always been America's super car at a bargain price.
Not to mention you can drop the roof in 5 min and store it in the trunk. How much is the Speedster again?
It has to have a manual though! I think it will... Didn't they release the C7 with a slush box only in the beginning?

Yeah, you know one is coming. Only a matter of time.
