Well that curb weight is higher than a 991.2 TT/TTS. I'd take a TT any day over that thing.

And then it's about 450 lb. heavier than a GT3 with same horsepower. (no 9000 rpm redline)

Corvette historical weight analysis. Some at Corvette forum not happy with the C8's increased weight:

I love the bang for the buck, might be a great track rat. I do think it's just odd looking. I'm sure it's an aerodynamic masterpiece but how does Ford do that with the stunning Ford GT and the corvette ends up looking like misc parts from other GM cars glued together; particularly the rear? Not crazy out the button bar either but I'd love to see one in person.

Thanks
Roy

After all these decades, Chevy concedes the point... mid engine design offers many pure driving performance advantages. Personally, I think the exterior design looks great (even if it copies quite a bit from Italian supercars). The performance specs are eye opening. 0-60 in under 3 seconds, for around $60,000. Double-clutch 8 speed transmission. Dry sump lubrication system. An all new coil over suspension design. There is a really good series of videos they just put on YouTube that explain a lot of the design choices.
The interior would make me claustrophobic. Why build a wall beside the driver? How's a guy going to get cozy with his girl? Sheesh.

We have no idea how well it handles, and how it feels to drive it under every condition.
We have no idea how much of this car is solid, and how much is cheap junk. We have no idea how reliable it will be, especially the new double-clutch transmission. The engine is now harder to get to than before (although 997 owners will be jealous of that large hood that exposes the whole top of the engine).

They were seen pushing it hard at Nurburgring. I look forward to finding out what the lap times are. But I'll stick with my 997 for now.

The dry weight difference between the base C7 and the base C8 is 68 lbs. Some of the reason has to be that the car is 5.4" longer and 2.2" wider then the C7. It's a larger car!

this car looks like an Acura NSX to me.

It definitely caught my attention for sure and in 4 years it will be on my short list if it handles as well as the 997.

Going to be hard to get the 997.1 gt3 for 80K when one can buy new C8. Never thought I would say that. Time will tell.

I would take a 991.2 TTS over a base C8 if money was no objective, but at 1/2 the price of a used 991.2 TTS it changes things considerably.

I agree. Competition is good. We will have better Porsches for less money because of it.

I also think the C8 is going to crush a 911 on a track, especially when they release the higher powered track focused versions. It's hard to compete with all that HP, Torque along with a mid-engine design. The only real question for me is reliability.

That's why I find the stereotypes so humorous. I also met lots of Corvette owners at various DE events, and I quickly learned that contrary to commonly held opinion, there is no correlation between the car owned and the wealth of the owner. I met lots and lots of Corvette owners who could easily afford GT Porsche models, but they nevertheless bought Corvettes. A good example is my youngest son's father in law. My son told me that his fiance's father and I should have a lot in common since we both love sports cars. I was later to find out that he owned two ZR1s: one for himself and the other for his wife. It was only later that I would find that he also owned a MB SL500, an Audi S8, and a Chevy truck. He has a three car garage, and when I visited him to finalize the wedding plans, the Vettes were on lifts in his garage. He has a 5000 sq ft home on a three acre estate which I'd estimate is valued in the $1.5 - $2M range.

So next time you see some guy driving a Corvette, don't jump to the conclusion that he's just a middle class guy who can't afford a Porsche. That may be the case but it may also be the case that he could buy a 918 if he wanted one.
I've never made the judgmental assumption that one who drives a vette cant afford a porsche.....I've only thought that said person lacked good taste..........(I say in half jest...I have just never liked the look or feel of any vette model....until this c8)

No. C7 Curb weight was stated as 3298. C8 Dry weight is stated as 3366, or 68lb more. Apples to oranges.

All explained in the thread I just linked in my previous post. Base C8 is MUCH (~300lb) heavier than C7.

Maybe you are right. And maybe i am not a typical buyer. But if the reviews are good i will definitely buy one, and that was not even a remote possibility 1 week ago. There goes the 458 or 997 RS. I have a few friends who are also absolutely not Vette guys, as they buy Porsche and Ferraris mostly, and most now have this car on their radar. I have to think that is not an isolated situation. Exotics will still sell, but i think the c8 makes a serious impact. Imagine when the z06 or zr1 shows up? Definitely a big change from c7 to c8, and the hype machine is just starting. Can’t wait for the Chris Harris video!

The C8 is strikingly but not attractive. I hope they sell a ton of them but I don’t see the C8 suddenly increasing the rate which buyers would pick a corvette over one of the european options.

Ah gotcha. I did hear that the California dealers are charging adm as well. I can wait.
