That isn't just a styling choice. Look around at all of the latest model cars, even the 992. You have DFI and turbocharged motors developing much more power than they used to, which means more heat. New dual clutch automatics require lots of cooling. Modern high performance cars can have over a dozen coolers. So all of those scoops are not just decoration. I hate the way they look, too. But I understand why they have them.

Read that the trans took almost as much work than the entire car itself to work out.
Dying to drive it. I've driven the **** out or a 2019 ZR1 and while it still has the old trans, it still feels like a mushy soft sloppy Chevy.
That p!sses me off to say because I'm a GM fan over Ford products but Maybe it's finally time this C8 will feel taut, tight and engineered like a Porsche.

But keep in mind that many people don't like the way the 911 looks. Maybe that's one of the reasons that they pick the Corvette over the 911. As a many decade owner of 911s, I certainly appreciate the classic 911 design, but I also understand that not everyone shares my view.. Based on the pictures I've seen I share your favorable impression of the C8, but I'll reserve final judgement until I see one in person. Also, I want to see how well the C8 performs on the track. If the C8 gets favorable reviews and turns in some fast lap times, I'll take a long look at the C8 Z06. The C7 Z06s I've seen at Watkins Glen are real fast, and it takes a competent driver in a GT3 to keep up with one. So a 700 HP Z06 sounds like a car worth waiting for. OTOH if the C8 doesn't handle well or if its DCT has some challenges, then it's back to Porsche and possibly the 718 Spyder.

The average annual return since adopting 500 stocks into the S&P index in 1957 through 2018 is roughly 8%. To be conservative, I used 7%. Of course markets go up and down, so I agree that if you needed the money in the short term, there is risk but for the long term it's relatively safe. The best I can get on a CD is 3% for a two year term, which barely keeps up with cost of living increases.
The 981 GT4 did retain its value quite well, but let's not forget that most buyers paid a significant ADM. Corvettes OTOH are discounted quite heavily after the first year on any model. My brother for example got his 2018 Z06 for $10K under MSRP from Kerbeck, and the Z06 is a low production model. But we can exchange anecdotal information all day long to support our position, so let's instead look to another source for costs of ownership: banks. Banks are fairly competent in assessing depreciation when establishing lease rates.
I checked a couple of sites and the typical price I see for a base 911 coupe is $1,299 per month for 36 months with $9,919 due at signing or well over $58,000 when leasing fees are included.
The 2019 Corvette 1LT lease payments are $599 for 36 months with $5,789 due at signing or approximately $29,000 when including leasing fees.
The only info I could find for a 981 GT4 lease was from a Rennlist poster: 36 month with 10K down, $1443.36 a month.
All of the leases were for 10K miles / year. The GT4 lease included taxes which the others didn't.
Lease rates are determined by vehicle cost, depreciation, money factor, and annual mileage. So apparently banks don't share your optimistic view regarding Porsche depreciation when the car is used enough to accumulate 10K miles / year. So although Porsches retain their value much better than Corvettes, it's not nearly enough to offset the substantial difference in price between the two cars.

Porsche, Mclaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini will not lose a single sale to this car.
You can buy a 60k camaro today and beat up on 250k Porsches at a track day.
This high performance/price ratio isn’t exclusive to the C8 and frankly it just doesn't matter.

I am also not beat up about the lack of a manual transmission. After doing so much go-karting and more recently sim racing, I am not that big a fan of a MT any longer, and I can heal and toe with the best of them. I would buy one of these to gut and cage for a track car anyways. Hopefully the aftermarket figures out the engine and transmission cooling by then. I am thinking 3 years from now for that sort of project...

I hope that Chevy knocks it out of the park with the C8. Although the rear end seems to busy for me, they nailed the other exterior clues.
Inside it seems a bit overdone, but it's an ambidextrous layout, so good on Chevy.
Performance wise, Chevy is likely competing with the GT3 now and that should raise Porsche's tolerance for horsepower in the Cayman/Boxster models.
So the C8 seems good for them and good for us (Porsche buyers).

Was just listening to the rumor mill and the Z06 is going to be a 7XXhp 4.2 turbo V8 available next year and the ZR1 will be the same engine but with electric motors to augment a few years out.
The more I read about new cars, the more I realize I am just a dinosaur. If the current ZR1 drivetrain went in the C8, that would be cool, but 4.2 turbo, DCT and electric motors .... not for me.

Agree. People buying Mclaren’s, Ferrari’s and Lambos are looking at this car as an addition to, not instead of their exotic.

It's growing on me and for 60k it's a knockout. The only two things I can't stand really are the spokes on the steering wheel and the center button stack. Wouldn't stop me from getting one if I were in the market, but it's kinda gross. I am excited to see the GS version of this. Also it's awesome that it still has an NA options. I really appreciate that.

When customers add the Corvette instead of a second or third Porsche, PCNA will indeed lose sales. I can't speak to the other three marques as most people I know don't own more than 1 McLaren or Lamborghini at a time.
