Thoughts on the new corvette?

I agree! Wanting the C8 to fail so your Cayman will be worth more is a bit much....
My plan is different....
Just bought this:
2017 Boxster base, 8k miles, $48k.
Drive it like I stole it for 2 years!
Trade it in for a base C8 'Vette!
I mean, why wait for some mid-engined fun!
Oh, the green '65? That is the Corvette I owned for 20 years and dearly loved!!

The Euros are making cars in the USA. Not like there's any trade secrets to design, manufacturing, and they all can buy from the same third party suppliers. No reason why the US auto manufacturers can't better compete with the Euros on all those aspects. I think the Euros will have a less competitive advantage in the future. Their manufacturing expenses and legislation are making it very expensive for them to produce cars. The US auto manufacturers can hopefully use that to their advantage.
There are just so many flat out ugly domestic designed models out there. How hard is it to hire talented designers?? Even Hyundai has stepped up their game. Get on it Chevy, Ford, and the rest ...

This way, the engine RPM could be made independent of the car’s speed. For acceleration, a GT4 with such a transaxle could just stay at 7600 RPM producing max power (and thus max acceleration) at any speed. For coasting, if could idle the engine or turn it off altogether, and also do regenerative braking. Compared to an electric car, this avoids the weight, heat, and charging speed issues of a battery.
It’ll combine many of the benefits of an electric car (always in the perfect gear, regenerative braking) while still maintaining all the benefits of a gasoline car (at least an automatic transmission gasoline car - less involvement than a manual I suppose). It even has the benefit of allowing you to hear redline at any speed
When paired with such a transaxle, I’m confident a GT4 would thoroughly beat a Z51 C8 Vette in any acceleration test from any start speed to any end speed, despite having a slightly lower power to weight ratio.
Would anyone else want such a thing to be made? I’ve wanted auto makers to do something like this for over a decade.

I laughed when I saw the sound systems in the C8- Bose 10 speaker or Bose 14 speaker. ha ha made me chuckle.
But a 6.2 mid-mounted V8 is something Porsche doesn't do, and mated with a dual clutch that sounds pretty good!

Won't be parting with my 991.2 GTS. I love the car and worth noting I'm surprised that there will be no MT C8 (according to reports so far, such a shame). Great-looking car and I 100% respect buying a C8 Vette but I would never buy one considering the lack of a MT. Oh well.
I dumped that car and bought a 3-series BMW and didn't look back.
Never buying a Chevy again...

One thing I noticed about the brakes on the C8 is that they are 4-piston, and smaller diameter than say, a 911 TT or GT3. And I think I saw a digital tach. Both of these are non-starters for me.

Any bashing of this car at such an early stage is a bad look for Porsche folks IMO. Makes us look insecure, close-minded, and eager to jump to premature conclusions before any real-world evidence is in. It also feeds and plays into the negative image many Vette guys have of Porsche guys. We're better than that. Not saying ya gotta love it. Simply saying give it a chance and let's see how things play out.

Can’t get the mods to create a sub forum on pricing, which most wanted, yet a discussion most people liked regarding the c8 got moved. Okay...

What do you guys think of the c8? Is Corvette going to take sales away from Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari and Lamborghini? Share your thoughts.

The corvette will be very successful
And it will not hurt sales of the cars you mentioned. People buy a Ferrari, Lambo, Mac, etc not because of the performance or price. They want that manufacture. Not to sound like a brand ***** but I'm not cross shopping a vette or Ferrari....

I was at the glen last Monday and Tuesday with my c7 z06 m7. Outside temp was upper 80’s and was able to run both days with a max oil of 273 and max water of 232. I was running 2:14’s both days running 4th gear all the way around so wasn’t pushing too hard. It was my first time there so wanted to enjoy both days without overheating.
I am also looking forward to seeing the high horsepower version of c8. Considering selling my z06 now to get a gt3. Always wanted one and feel like this is a good time to try one.
