I think Chevrolet hit a grand slam HR with this car. Stupendous.

I'll never own one (at least in the next 3-6 years or so) but I am very interested to see what it's going to do on the tracks / performance wise.

If I end up with a Vette anytime soon, it'll be a C5 (Always thought they were great styling and less "Hey look at me" for a Vette), simply so I can go with a good friend of mine and his wife to their Vette owners Club Drives and Events. C5 ZO6's are great values these days.

So a C8 Corvette thread can't exist in the GT3 forum?? The other one got moved. Ridiculous. Someone intimidated?

well, to be fair, it would not have been a PDK. The gearbox is actually made by ZF, who of course sells to may OEMs besides Porsche, so really this is an non-story

Maybe I'm misreading this.
No I'm saying its probably a great value for what is costs which isn't much. However even at that great value it doesn't much interest me personally. It's my personal view on value for money. I should say I don't care for Pagannis and McClarens much either. Weirdly I really like the new Toyota Supra errr BMW... Just personal taste.

They're the ones sitting around drinking Coors with their buddies talking about how it'd be "like wicked ****in' cool to get a new Vette, I tell you whut!"

I'm sure they'll sell a ton of them. I'm sure it will be "fast." I'm sure I won't want one. Never have liked Corvettes or Camaros unless we're talking something classic/vintage. My cousin has two super nice classic Stingrays. And I'd love to own a '68 Camaro. But definitely not any of the newer ones.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the exact Porsche owner I was referring to...
Well done, you proved my point. I'm glad some guys here told you what a tool you sound like.

What's bizarre is, I have owned both cars for years, and I have a masters degree, my college roommate has owned multiple vettes and he has a masters degree, a good friend of mine is a lifelong track driver and vette owner and he's an electrical engineer.

Jay Leno, is worth 100 million and he's a lifelong Porsche AND Corvette collector. Keep up the good work of making Porsche owners cringe while cleaning your Gucci loafers.

A turbo, on the other hand, will always have some lag and will introduce some exhaust back pressure, but the back pressure effect is pretty negligible and, for all intents and purposes, a turbo drives its compressor for free by scavenging energy that would have just gone out the exhaust. The other benefit of a turbo is it will not lose HP with altitude as the wastegate will compensate as the atmospheric pressure drops.

I'm still waiting for someone to try feeding a S/C motor with a turbo - it's been done on aircraft since WWII.

Mike,

The S/C was causing overheating of the rear two cylinders leading to too much knock, and the car then pulling power. This was addressed in 2017(?) when GM raised the height of the S/C housing and tilted the back ends of the I/C ‘bricks’ up slightly to allow for more cooling. This then took care of that specific issue.

A secondary water radiator was installed for the M7 cars also in 2017 which essentially cured overheating on a road course during DE events; at least for those drivers who understand that this car is super easy to drive using it’s torque instead of constantly running it at Max rpms. Unfortunately the second water radiator was not an option for the A8 cars since a secondary transmission cooler was already mounted in that position.

Granted I always wished the car had been designed around a TT format, but the C7 was being designed around the time of the last economic meltdown and from all reports, development money was tight. Hence the cheap way to make tons of power being the S/C.

Regardless of it’s faults, the C7 Z is a really great DE car that for relatively cheap you can help run all session long and be extremely quick.

Really looking forward to seeing seeing what the high hp versions of this C8 bring to the table!

Bish

They've already been trying to sort out issues for ~2 years now and they're STILL not in production.

I think at best its going to be more like the Alfa Guilia Quadrifolgio. If it ever actually goes into production, the initial response will be good.. because people want it to be.
Then reality will settle in and all the excitement will burn off and it'll go from "wow what a car, they got this one right" to "whoa! too many problems, run away don't buy!"

Hard to argue re: economic boom, rising prices, etc., Porsche knows they still make the best overall package in the industry if you ask me - combing semi-exotic cars with industry benchmark in handling and performance while also doing what seem an anomaly by also being of one the most reliable and dependable cars on the road across the board. Beside those facts, direct competitors like the AMG GT/S/R, Corvette, Mclaren Sport series, etc. do not offer an practicality for passengers beyond 2 seats. That, IMO, is where Porsche can charge and can demand (because people pay it) the prices for the 911 (as sometimes outrageous as they may be). For me, if the 911 didn’t have a back seat enough to fit small children, I’d likely continue buying cars in the C63S, M3/4 segment because those are the best compromise of performance and handling, decent track capability, and practicality. I would love to see Porsche make an M3 type car because I know they’d flat out do it better.

Reality is, Porsche's are like 25% more expensive than they should be just due to inflated German manufacturing costs (labor unions) and the profit margins Porsche shoots for. They're getting it, and that's fine as I support a capitalist economy, but that same economy also fosters competition and consumers have choices.

Now that vette will definitely hurt NSX, R8 and others sales. Very dissapointed that they didn't bring back the round tail lights, which was the biggest mistake they made on the C7. But hey!!! It is what it is.
The car look awesome beside that rectangular tail lights and oversized side scoops. 495 hp and 470 torque with Z51 package or better yet the Grandsport down the line would make this car a bargain of super car performance. I never own a Vette but looking to add a GS convertible in couple years. Kudos to GM for going bold with mid-engine Vette.

Well it's interesting what other off topic brand and subject threads do stick around here though, take your pick. Yet the C8 one doesn't last a day. The action speaks for itself. Selective policing ...
