Thoughts on the new corvette?

I personally was in process trying to grab a spot for a 718 spyder. I'm now going to see this out with the vette a bit.
Lots of evidence that this car will present a different level of threat to Porsche and other marques.
Also as for the interior this really is next level coming out of chevy. Doesn't seem to be a single cheap looking touch point (and I actually like the physical buttons on the flying buttress).
bonus pic of a wingless unique build that looks pretty sweet.

I've been in a number of base Boxster and 996/997's with that dab gray bland interior that had me scratching my head wondering how this very much Honda Civic-esk interior was somehow superior to any Corvette.
Even my friends 1996 Corvette has a nicer interior than some base model Porsche's I've seen. Yes I went there, comparing the C4 to any Porsche. The line for pitchforks forms on the left, torches on the right.
My neighbor just picked up a 2019 Z28, no hard plastic to be found and deviated stitching all over the place.

But as much as I love Porsches, I also have respect for Corvettes. My brother has a 2018 Z06 which cost him about 45% of my GT3 purchase price. I'm not a leather expert, but the leather in the Z06 looks as good to me as the leather in my GT3. That's subjective and others may disagree, but one thing that isn't subjective is performance. At Watkins Glen both cars are very similar in performance, and no his Z06 doesn't overheat and go into limp mode, even after many laps.
As far as the C8 is concerned, I'll be taking a long, hard look at the Z06 version scheduled to be released in 2021. Since my current Porsches are keepers, if I buy the Z06 it will be added to my collection. A 700 HP mid-engined car sounds intriguing to me. Hopefully, I won't put it into a wall after a lap or two.

As a many decade owner of 911s, I truly appreciate what they have to offer but I'm not blind to their "warts". After reading many of the posts in this thread, you would surmise that Porsches have the greatest interiors ever built and Corvettes are barely on a par with Yugos. I currently own two Porsches: GT3 and 981S. The GT3 is primarily used on the track, and the 981S is my street car. After reading some of the posts I rechecked the interiors of both cars since maybe they are a lot better than I recalled. To be fair I didn't order the full leather package on either car, and maybe other posters did but the interiors of my Porsches are just OK. Certainly nothing to brag about. OTOH the engines, suspensions, and the build quality of both cars are outstanding . Foe example I had a guy walk up to my 981S at a gas station and complement me on my "new" Porsche. I nearly floored him when I told him that t was a 2013.

chevy did an amazing job with the unveil last week in tustin CA.
I got to check it out first hand
I spoke to the engineers and was very impressed with what they are trying build, a race car on the street.
Bummer there will never be a 6 speed manual.....
Waiting for them to announce the track version and then will pull the trigger

I agree with you in regards to interior build materials. In my personal experience the main difference is in the build tolerances. After tracking my C7 Z07 about 15 times the car had completely changed. Rattles, panels a lot looser, that sort of thing. My 991 cars never suffered this kind of fatigue. Not an issue if you’re not tracking but it’s no small or common thing for a car to stay consistent after repeated track abuse.

But damn, I REALLY wish they used real glass for the c pillar. That interior c pillar panel is the EXACT shape of the interior c pillar on my old $300 80's Firebird. Definitely will harken a low grade aura to anyone who knows those cars therefore knows what I'm talking about.

This '16 Spyder is my first Porsche so I have no opinion/experience with those cars. But the plastic center consoles of the GM cars, complete with the faux leather grain embossed into it, was as bad as it gets. Are you telling me the 986, 987, 996 and 997 trim was as bad?
The 97NSX that I used to have had an interior designed in 1989-1990 that had a much better interior (except the family sedan sized steering wheel).
The 987/997 was a giant step forward (Had a 987.1 BS, 987.1 Cayman S Sport, 987.2 Cayman R), the 981/991 was yet another good step forward.
The 718 is a step backwards IMHO, liked the 981 interior so much better without having a wart on the dash and the horrible AC vents.
Yet to see a 992 in person.
My brother in law's 2019 C7 ZR1 has a nice interior, I expect the interior of the C8 to be better.

I like the buttons on the "buttress" too (I'm a tactile buttons guy, I get enough of touchscreens and options buried in menus on my smartphone).

if GM is going after younger buyers, they had to find a way to keep insurance cost down..
the engineering on this car is next level, only mclaren can compare, which is way too expensive to maintain as a track or even a road car
love the structure, no way you will see strut tower failures like recent Porsches, starting to believe the 30% improvement in ride and handling that gm engineers claim

Someone probably needs to ask the Corvette Engineers to clarify, it could be bolted and bonded using an adhesive like they do in the aircraft industry.
