Three Wheelin'
I have a 14 CD and the strange thing is that the original "fix" is seemingly so variable owner by owner. Mine was fixed at ~89k miles and from day 1 I noticed no material change in drivability, sound, etc. with two very minor exceptions: the cold 2nd gear hang up (which does drive me crazy, so I will get the latest update) and a ~ 1mpg overall drop in mileage. I live in the West, so lots of hills, etc and I always drive 9mph over whatever the limit is and my mileage is incredible.Im still showing a range of 618 miles after going 244 miles. I hand calculate and find my trip computer is usually .5-1MPG optimistic, so real world it is probably just over 35 mpg. Here was my most recent drive:

I’ve never gotten mileage like that. Too heavy a foot I guess plus a lot of 70 and 75 MPH limit highways means 77-82 cruise. Not great for economy.

Just down the street from you, but I hardly ever drive over 50mph. 80% city driving, 15% highway, and 4% towing, and 1% track -- Average 21.62mpg.

I have a ‘14 and got the original fix and all campaigns done in feb of this year. I stated earlier that my car is a little more peppy than pre fix. Also there is less lag than the prefix. So all that is good. The only problem is that I’m no longer getting a computer range of 33 -35 mpg on the highway. It is more like 27 at best. I probably have driven less than 500 miles since the fix. Did you guys experience better mileage after sometime?

Had the software recall done last week. Noticeable smoother power delivery.
Also, discovered today that the off road/on road switch below the transmission now functions. The off road and on road mode is displayed in the gauge cluster.
I don’t believe this ever functioned previously even when brand new.

OK, two weeks in and I'd say the update is a 95ish% solution for Normal Mode. That is, there are still a couple of situations I've had what seems to be longer lag than should be there, but they are rare and I can live with them. Otherwise, driveability is very improved over what it was.
If not, what is your impression of the 'fix' plus the software update for your 2014?
Thanks,

^ This new software is certainly much better than the original fix version. Absolutely worth the $10K payoff and warranty now. I had recently a DPF go bad where the fix would be thousands without the dieselgate warranty.
The only emission part that is original to my car is the EGR but it is easy to get to myself.

Burning Brakes
Now, that I'm working every other day, and that my dealer is now back in business, I'm going to drop my truck off for the AKB6 and to have the transmission flushed and filled for $600 on Monday.
As most have reported good things about the latest flash, probably because once VAG had gotten all the vehicles off the road, and then fixed all the others, they probably got the green light to allow our trucks to pollute and run like they were meant to run with no emissions controls-ha!, and, my wife had her 2015 Touareg TDI flashed and even she had noticed a great/good difference in now the truck now runs.
I'll be psyched to get it done on Monday.

Was this write up for your 2014 CD?

We were going to schedule then all the crap hit, so as soon as it's done, we'll get it in to be flashed. Sorry I don't have first hand impressions on the '14 but I think it's going to be really good. Basically what they advertised in the fix pamphlets.

Except if you didn't register and get the first half by 12/31/2019, you're out. Can't do it now. Well, you can get the fix, but no cash.

I wouldn't do the transmission flush at the dealer. They charge $45 a liter for the fluid and it takes 10 liters, so $450 just for the fluid, which you can buy for $10 a liter elsewhere.

Had the “fix” done this week at PNH (love the folks there) and just now catching up on these posts. Had my ‘13 CD since last Feb and never touched the sport mode button ever. Just drove it and figured it was sluggish, because diesel.
After reading the feedback I had to see for myself. Clicked into sport mode and did a few laps around Houston’s downtown loop (my getaway street track going CCW around downtown Houston connecting the highways with nice elevation changes etc).
Holy! Is this what pre fix owners are talking about?! I’m in love with what feels like a new toy. Wow! So I tested the MPG to see if that changed and drove down to MSRH Angleton TX and recorded 32MPG. Yep, all good there.
Noticeable changes were the notorious hanging cold shift gone, some hesitations with throttle / ECU as mentioned above also gone (I would generally ignore and just drive through), I also don’t need to drive to/with the lag like I used to by building up boost and slowly easing into the throttle to build momentum on acceleration. It just goes now. Downshifts nicely to a complete stop vs. having to predict when cars would slow down or search for yellow traffic lights and ease into the brakes early to avoid mashing the pedal and saving my pads. I noticed even with sport mode off it wants to just take off on the highway which left me easing off the pedal more often and maintaining those awesome MPGs.
I see what I was missing (pre fix), and having this upgrade/fix is a real treat for someone who didn’t know any better. I purchased this for towing, MPGs, and comfort vs. driving experience. Now all I want to do is drive but am stuck home. Have 11 months before my CPO runs out but I may just hold onto this for much longer. At least until the diesel parts warranty terminates (2025 I think?).
Appreciate everyone’s feedback and the great forum help. Cheers!
