No, that's not right. Neither our '14 or '15 do this. They start at ambient (after they've not been run for a while, of course) and climb to 200, typically. The water temp gets there pretty quickly and the oil temp takes longer to come up to temp. It does seem like the water temp comes up quicker since the fix, though. That would be in keeping with the higher revs and all to get things warmed up.

I did notice today, however, that while it did absolutely start at ambient, the water temp was at 200* within about 2 minutes. That's some fast heating. Oil temp had just barely begun to rise, so I think I agree that the display is artificial. And I can't remember what it did before the fix.

I believe the biggest reason for a speedy coolant temperature rise and recovery to normal operating temps, is due to the Electric Themostat in the 3.0 TDi and not the traditional Wax Pellet style in a conventional cooling system.
This makes more sense perhaps, when they're trying to control engine efficiency and the complex emissions.

Maybe not related but, given there are people talking about the radiator fan running all the time... I just picked up a CPO 14 CD. I haven't noticed if the rad fan runs all the time but, I have noticed my water temp sits a 200°F all the time, it doesn't move. I left work yesterday after the vehicle being parked for 10 hours, it read 200 on startup. The vehicle sat in my garage overnight for 12 hours, it read 200 on startup. I had a little bit of a fun run on some windy hilly country roads on my way to work, it read 200. Either this thing has the most amazing cooling system I've seen or this sensor seems to be in some type of default state.
I know BMW has recently started insulating some of their engines to hold heat for long periods (up to 36 hours), is that what I'm seeing here or is there something wrong?

I never really paid attention. I guess I'll have to watch that now and see what the actual temp readout says.
The CD does seem to like hot oil temps. Actually, so does my wife's Boxster. They seem to settle in, in normal driving, around 220F on the oil temps.

I don't want to risk voiding the warranty tho I can't lie - a Malone tune + TCM reflash does have my interest. I'll probably never do it... but I'll follow with interest anyways.

Will check the rate at which our oil & water temp comes up to normal operating temp & report back.
Note that we have no intention of getting the 'fix' - previously I posted dyno numbers for our 2013 - would love to see post fix hp and torque curves.

See post 5655. My initial thought that the temp never moves was not accurate. Typically the first time I look at temp is while waiting for the gates at home or work to open which are 0.3 and 0.5 miles from startup respectively. It will read ambient on startup but, by the time I hit the gate it is reading 200F. Once there it stays there. It seems unbelievable that it would be able to heat the entire volume of the cooling system that quickly with 0 overshoot or for there not to be at least some drop in temp as it starts to circulate water. It is obviously not what the temp sensor is actually seeing. It is either heavily filtered or totally generated by the ECU.

That seems to be the happy place for modern vehicles on oil temp. The first car I had running in that range was an 07 BMW 335i. It seems likely running that hot helps emissions and with modern oils that temp should not be detrimental to the oil.
