Yeah I too was hoping Porsche would offer a 997.2 unit soon, but it looks like I’m going to try NM Automotive.

Can’t agree more, the NM unit has made the PCM so much more useable and up to date.

I would rather have the PCCM upgrade in a couple of years when all the current bugs are sorted out and wireless CarPlay is available on the pccm units.

Don’t know if anyone is following the 996 threads for the PCCM but there are a number of bugs some acknowledged by Porsche. There is currently debate on how software updates are provided with some dealers asking for a fee to update the software even though these are bugs that need to be resolved. Currently any update is dealer only.

Great info - I'll have to read more about the bugs. With it being dealer only upgrade and a possible charge, that is definitely a downside.

Really really disappointed they only built for 997.2, not the .1 PCM...

Likely already know the answer, but does anyone know if it would it be possible to swap a PCM 2.1 with a 3.1?

Any reason you wouldn’t wait for PCCM Plus for the 997.1 next year? That should be better than even the PCM 3.

also came across this statement, although i can't speak to its credibility... but hope it's coming from a legit source...

"Less drastic but no less useful is the expanded rollout of digital infotainment technology to fit older models as recent as the 997, with that variant's PCCM system due for launch in 2022 in response to demand."

Id not go for this product but glad it exists as it scratches that itch for some owners before OEM comes. The fitment below the unit versus rest of console looks pretty terrible. Not sure people realize it but look again and you cant unsee it. Not for me, would drive me mad.

And yeah, I see irony waiting for OEM and slagging OEM quality a sentence earlier...

I think what you guys are looking at is a 996 PCCM+ jammed into a 997 console.
I am not going to defend Porsche's crappy plastic but this is some weird hacked in situation.

I would guess when it comes out, it will be really slick but really expensive AND better than the 996 one because of the experience doing the 996 one.

If there wasn't a semiconductor shortage, I'm sure Porsche would have already announced a release date for the 997/987 version of the PCCM+, but I'm still hopeful you will see something in the next few months if not early spring 2022.

Because I don't feel dumb enough, do the tea leaves indicate the OEM 997 update will be for both the .1 and .2?

Got tired of waiting for 997.2 PCCM+. Just had the 9XX CarPlay/Android retrofit installed along with a backup camera.
Anthony Wong of 9XX did the install (a separate PC board inside the head unit). At first, we didn't think it would work because I wasn't able to get the PCM3.0 to update its firmware to the desired v2.24 (the 2009 997.2s had v1.44—apparently in 2010 Porsche made a change in the head unit with higher firmware revisions—the early version's highest firmware turned out to be v1.47).
My (2009) did not come with the 870 Universal multimedia interface (iPod, USB and AUX)—the 9XX PC board needs AUX capability to interface with. After a couple of hours of swapping out different head units to see if , we reinstalled my original head unit and were able to upgrade the firmware to v1.47 and also activated the AUX capability and by that evening, everything was installed and working great.
Total cost including Anthony's labor's etc. was $2000, significantly cheaper than my local high end audio shop for a head unit swap. If you want to do it yourself, I believe the hardware is $750. Not sure what the backup camera hardware would sell for.
Anthony also installed a neat hack that allows me to remotely roll down the windows while unlocking the car and vice-versa (lock the car and have the windows close).
Moral of the story, even an early 997 can have the 9XX CarPlay installed
