Going by the price points of the existing PCCM units, I’m guessing the 997 one would be $2000 at least. None of the previous cars had much functionality in their original units, so all they had to do was to support CarPlay and some basic FM stuff. 997 has the trip computer, the chrono timer etc. Again not sure which ones would get support, but CarPlay with music on all the speakers is what I’m waiting for.

I would also be very interested in an OEM Classic unit for my 997.2 (finally got it here from the US earlier this week!).

Regarding wireless CarPlay, I do like the "just get in and it's on" nature of it in the Taycan, but the downside is it really seems to hammer the phone battery. If I put my iPhone in the wireless charging slot, it does not seem to charge much at all, but gets extremely hot (to the point that the phone shut down yesterday, right at the most critical point for me using Maps to navigate to my destination).

Thanks Sporty. I bought one of these and can listen to something other than my CD's which I stopped buying somewhere around 2000 and skip like hell. I'm still all in on a OE solution.

The NMAutomotive retains the OEM unit, just adds wireless apple CarPlay. Which means you still get OEM look, OEM function, OEM hardware, but you can use Apple Maps, Google Maps, Siri voice commands, Waze, and play all your music on your phone all via a touch screen interface. Its great!

NM automotive unit is excellent for CarPlay and rear view camera addition, plus, reasonable price for functionality and available now.

Would be nice to have current tech nav/com/ entertainment in my 997.2. However, don’t really use much of any of that when taking her out. My F150 with Sync III I do use and find it just about perfect. If had a system equal to that I’d consider.

So Porsche are working on a kit for the 997.1 and not 997.2?

So the kit will not work for the 997.2? Is that the current rumour?

I would imagine they would be two completely different designs so they .1 would be first and then the .2 later down the line.

Would love one for my .2

Correct. .1 for now. Not .2. For .2's you do have some aftermarket modules that should allow CarPlay if I remember correctly.

The .1 is now being considered a classic by Porsche, but I think it's a couple more years before the .2 gets there.

I'll be installing a 9xxresearch add on module in a couple weeks. That (or equivalent) seems to be to best option for the. 2 cars right now IMHO. I'll know more after the install.

I cannot recommend the NM version enough. Very reliable. Not a bad PCM rewire and install, backup camera install was more laborious.
nearly all the units are similar, both with PCM rewire and install, some require a separate power source, which, NM doesn’t , I found that
a big plus.

IN fairness the 997.1 guys really could use the upgrade a lot more than those of us with 997.2s. We can also wait few more years and get the upgraded one, who knows what new features it might bring with it anyway.
