Two of my friends in town have acquired 4RSs in the last few weeks. I look forward to driving them/with them.
I agree with your sentiments regarding the 996TT though. I got to thrash a GT2RS on the track last weekend, and while it was definitely awesome, it was not $400k awesome. I had faster lap times in my car.
Congrats @pfbz and thanks for sharing your impressions.
This weekend was oil change for me w/ some Mobil 1 5w50 that I had in the stash from one of the NAPA sales shared on here a while back.
FYI for anyone needing more, M1 5w50 is back on sale at NAPA for $7/qt..... Just bought 24 qts. Other M1 oils are also on sale, but it's the 5W50 thats particularly hard to find a decent deal on, especially since it's in qts only.
Also of note is they carry no C40 spec oil (C40 is the Porsche spec that replaces A40 for all the new cars with gasoline particulate filters, like the 4RS). "Mobil1 0w-40 ESP C40 x3" is really the only choice, and evidently it is nearly impossible to find even without looking for some great deal. It's evidently very similar to the newly rebranded Mobil 1 Supercar oil that is used in the C8 Corvettes, but that oil does not carry the C40 rating... Only GM dexosR

The reality is that there is precious little than can even come close the overall package bang-per-buck of the 996 Turbo. It's the first thing I tell all my buddys who catch Porsche fever after trading cars for a bit... $60K will still get you a really nicely sorted, nicely upgraded, phenomenally competent 996 Turbo tweaked for whatever your fancy is... Pure track, mixed street, drag/airstrip/hill-climb competition, pleasure drives down the coast, daily commuting, whatever. And the fact is they can (and do) still show their *** to *many* modern 911/Cayman versions that are multiples more expensive.
Mezger Turbos are absolutely positively the most under-appreciated drivers/performance Porsche out there, even after the price run-up in the past few years.
I love sampling/experiencing some of the other flavors, from Porsche and others, but I defy any true enthusiast driver to take a spirited mountain drive in a well sorted Mezger Turbo (coupe six-speed would be my preference, but whatever) and not (at least secretly) want to keep the keys when they are through.
One of the few cars I have zero seat time in is the GT2RS... I would very much like to try one sometime. But your right, no way it will really justify 3X a nice 991 Turbo or 7X a great 996 Turbo other than they do hold their value really well.
I agree... Really like the default wheel design. Made it pretty easy to decline the $16,000 optional magnesium wheels... Thats a lot of tires, fuel, and track time!
Yes, hard to see how a $16k wheel upgrade is a 'performance' upgrade as much as it is bragging rights.
Plus, I would die inside if I would ever curb them.

Paul your profile picture is really cool! I am assuming that picture was taken at the factory, as I remember when I was at the Zuffenhausen factory tour I recall seeing the same production lift moving cars up and down through the production line.

If so, is that your actual car?
Yes, presumably at least! Porsche sent links to a few different assembly line pics of my car right after the build was complete. These as well....
Despite moving the car every month over the last six months, it would appear that I have developed some flat spots on the tyres... Super irritating at 60mph, feels like an angry little animal is in the steering.
How long does this usually take to correct itself? 615s are on it now.
Cheers,
when i store the car for the winter, i air up to 50psi and park the car on 2" thick rigid foam insulation boards... i'll grab a pic...
I recently finished removing the Garrett GT2860 turbos and titanium exhaust system from my 996TT. PO purchased a big kit from Agency Power and Vivid Racing installed everything. It was plenty peppy, but crazy-loud! Went back to stock K24s and stock muffler. It was sooner than I planned, but got her done while it was wintertime here in the Midwest.
Now all I have to do is sell all the pieces and parts I took off! I put a post in the Parts For Sale with more pics.
Thanks,
Steve
Garrett turbos with external Tial wastegates. Turbos and exhaust system removed from car.

Thanks for the tip, I've just bought 2 oil changes worth from my local NAPA!
Picked up a set of 996 GT3RS front uprights.. I still need to figure out the rears. That's a problem for another phase of the build though, they aren't easy to come by so when a set came available I couldn't resist

Agree with all of that. As for the bolded part - we could potentially remedy that in July. My group is doing a rally in CO if you want to join. We're always looking for like-minded people with nice cars, and can invite friends too!
