I drove it really fast the past 3 days, and also got to drive a bunch of other cool cars on the track. Fastest lap times besides the Sennas and Huayra. The tires helped. Sliding the 991 cars is so easy, they are well balanced and easy to control. Not pictured are 4 .2 3RSs, a 600LT, another 675LT, another Senna, and a Senna GTR.

Took my new-to-me '01 Tip for first outing on one of my favorite twisties. Fun getting to know the tranny shift points, and manual shifts. Zero issues with car's functionality. She's a keeper.

Carlo posted the process of resetting the tip. I tried it with my Turbo and noticed a difference after it learned my driving style.

How are you liking the tip? I have the same transmission in my E55, but obviously it's not going to react the same.

I'm considering picking up a Tip for daily traffic duty, and so I can have one in a different colour...

LOL, it’s been so long since I posted that I forgot the process. What is it?

I took a bit of a gamble yesterday with the Guards Red Tip, as I had forgotten the 60 day temp paper plates the dealer provided. So I was ripping the twisties with no plates, front or back. Passed a pair of CHP going up and back, but thankfully they kept focused on the two vehicles they were dealing with.

I was unaware of Tip reset. Thanks for enlightening me. Guess I'll have to read the manual one of these days.

Thus far I like it. If I could make one change it's paddles instead of buttons. I assume there is a DIY mod out there to do so. Regarding your motivations to get a Tip, I LIKE this one. ;-)

One of my favorite all-time rennlist posts!

I gave up alcohol 4 years ago, and started buying chain saws and power tools with the money not spent on booze. Those were the "gateway drugs" that lead to a new Airstream, F350, lumber mill, Skidsteer, etc. Mainlining the hard stuff now!

Been dealing with some fairly serious family matters lately, so apologies on being absent.

Spoke with @sdematt last night, and the conversation reminded me of no matter how bad things look, there is always something brighter around the corner...

And here it is, took the turbo to the beach, tried out the new tow hook, and snapped a couple of pics.

Sweet baby Jesus do I love this car!

Rain wasn't on the menu when I left the shop...

Soooooooooo nice to drive over the sti.

I hear ya! Went out for a twisty drive previous weekend in the 996 Turbo, it's hard to imagine what I might like better...

But I did just add one of these to the garage just today. I literally have 5 miles on it so far so no comments yet on how terrific is might be, but we shall see. I will say that it has some pretty big smile-per-mile shoes to fill!

Comparing my specific Turbo to the 4RS:
.
  • Both have big air scoops...
  • Both have a Born in Flacht motorsports derived engine...
  • Both are ~500HP (turbo actually a fair bit more)...
  • Both have fixed carbon fiber buckets...
  • Both are a bit loud, some might even find over the top...
  • Both are way more suited for twisty canyons and track days then rush hour commuting...
  • Both are definitely cars focused driving enjoyment...
  • One is twenty-two years newer then the other...
  • One is built, the other is bought.

As much as it is probably sacrilege to even consider that I'll enjoy my Turbo more, it is a definite possibility! Yes, high praise for the Mezger Turbo platform.

PS, can anyone guess what my first mod will be? My cars rarely go 24 hours before I start making them my own....

(^^^^ not me by the way... the mobile tire guy)

So far the RTV and zip ties are working. No leaks. But that's around town. Need a good long highway run. Now where to.....

Paul, love the fact you managed to snag a 4rs, if only oil and gas sector was doing better in Canuckville...

I have yet to drive one, but it is such an appealing all around precision powerhouse, who wouldn't one...?

Looking forward to its 'progession'...

Part of me definitely views it as a ridiculous expenditure/price.... But I was extremely fortunate to put myself down for one a long time ago, and with one of the few remaining reputable dealerships that sell without enormous ADM's which helps me justify it...

Also, seeing very clean and low mileage but still fairly unremarkable 996 Turbos selling for $125K makes me think maybe not such a ridiculous price? And nice hot-rod long-hoods checking in at ~$150k? At any rate, I am very much looking forward to my bonding process with the car. But NOT looking forward to the 300-800 mile graduated break-in process, until which I'm supposed to avoid the higher RPMS.
