In low traction situations the car is going to want to swap ends under heavy acceleration. 930-ish.

My local parts guy just got back to me, cannot get the shafts.

So, removing the shafts would be straight forward as they are fixing the mounts, then, I assume, the front diff and shaft comes out pretty easy.

Should also shed about 100lbs or so...

Do the uprights, with the shafts removed, need any attention?

Just finished reading Darrick's thread when he did this conversion with a c4s, I think that as the turbos are going to go on, I will want to dyno it, and the soonest I can see shafts is going to be a week, I am going to take @LinwoodM s advice and strip it all out, for the moment, just to be curious.

As an added bonus, there should be an increase in mileage....

And because I have no interest in Vancouver Porsche charging me rack time while we wait for parts.

It would appear that it is the thrust bearing that is broken, so that should be readily available as it is OEM.

Hopefully, I will not kill myself.

Thank you, I am going to use this situation to move the AWD upgrade forward.

You CANNOT just remove the front driveshafts and go.
The wheel hub and bearing needs to be held together. You need either to remove the outer CV's from the front driveshafts and reinstall them, or source conversion stub axles (rennline now has them).

That's $40cdn for two repair kits....

Replacing the Boots is an easy and relatively straight forward job, however involves messing around with a lot of old bad smelling grease...

Glad I caught this thread. Maybe he's got the stainless steel and it drones compared to the inconel. I got a quote from a local shop for a dyno tune with Cobb controller. He quoted the Soul exhaust, but based on the previous comment and what you said about the compliment you got recently and your experience on the highway I'm going to specify the Kline inconel. Thanks.

Ok, the options appear to be the following:

Rennline Spindles as theprf suggested - $900, and as the front will be taken apart, there shouldn't be a great ball of labor.

Found some replacement axles out of Arizona, $700

Replace the boots - $40 - boots and some labor, if the joints are still good, if they are not, then back to one of the options noted above.

If I had the axles in hand, I could manage changing the boots myself, what I would like to avoid is having it sitting on the rack while waiting for parts, so I am leaning towards converting it to RWD, which brings me to the question of alignment after converted - a couple of comments about how there was some understeer after this mod. This makes some sense to me as when configured for AWD, the front would help pull the car around, so would the GT2 alignment specs still have the same feel, or will alignment need to be a bit more aggressive to overcome understeer?

I really like it, and although it does not seem to drone to me, I cannot comment comparatively on the Inconel versus the SS, nor am I sure if the material change would have much, if any effect on drone.

I bought a pair of "bad" axles off eBay, then took them apart to scavenge the outer stub axles from them. $400 and I've got OEM parts for when/if I decide to do a rwd conversion on my car. So you can either do that to your current axles, or try and do what I did.

Contact Bilstein about the parts you need for the PSS9's, I've found them very good to deal with in the past.
