DJ you are a hero, this is an amazing thread. Thanks for taking us through your journey. It’s funny but this post reminds me of this other crazy build thread in the 997 forum — https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...ger-turbo.html. Except your build is actually being done right 😂

Well last night for my birthday i got the rest of the dash out. Today i found out LA Dismantlers has the sheet metal i need but they want to sell me the back half if the car and its about $500 more then i want to pay. I am trying to negotiate (convince) them to just take a sawsall or grinder to the sections i need. Since they said most if the item cost is labor to cut the car in half i figure it would only take an hour to cut out the parts i need.

Tonight ill be seperating my original harness to add the sunroof, frunk amp and maybe the memory seat function back into the gt3 harness. At first look the option wiring is "bundled" and added to the main harness and wrapped. Im hoping to cut the wrap open, pull the needed wires and maybe have to de-pin a few wires from the ralay and fuse box. Fingers crosses.

thanks and thanks. I gots no kids and a forgiving wife so i can spend my evenings in the garage.

So tonight i finished removing the 3 wiring "systems" from my c2 harness that i wanted to swap to the gt3. I wanted to add back in the memory seats, stereo and sunroof wiring. The gt3 had manual seats but i didnt get the factory seats. It came with power recarros, the stereo was very base level and of course no gt3 had a sunroof. I was able ro open up the harness, seperate and de-pin all 3 with the help of the bentley book. Im gonna wrap them and piggy back them onto the gt3 harness. I will have to re-pin a few things in the door connections for the memory mirrors. Im also gonna keep my cable frunk and trunk release. All i have to do is ignore the switches and keep my y2k latches with the micro switches hooked up and the alarm will be happy. It looks like a mess but its sorted and labled.

Also after dealing with LA Dismantlers for 2+ weeks trying to get them to price and remove the motor mounts and firewall bump from a t-boned turbo they decided the only way they would do it was to cut the car on half and send it to me. As u can imagine the cost was high but not really that bad for half a car but the shipping cross county would kill me. RyanH offered to cut the parts out and send them as he is close but its a pita and i was still gonna pay too much. Not trying to slam LAD but i was bumbed they would just spend an hour and cut the parts out for a fair price.

So on a hope and a prayer i called DC Auto in NC. 2 weeks ago the salesman said they didnt have a car they would cut up but this time i confused the him enough that he sent me to the yard boss. This guy Randy kicks a$$. He understood exactly what i wanted and within 2 hrs and 4 emails i had purchaced the parts for 65% of the price.

Goal is to have the dash, wiring and suspension back in this weekend. It wont be all finished as im still waiting on some parts but hopefully it will roll.

The current mess.

Its funny, i dont find this kind of thing difficult. First its a german car, its assembled logically and second someone put it together the first time so there is no reason it cant be done a second time.

With the electrical wiring i just study the diagrams, making notes, go out and verify everything and then with a lot of patients i identify and tag all the locations. It takes a lot of patients and concentration. I dont even turn on the radio for this part.

Im excited to start putting it back together.

It’s true. My buddy’s 1980 Polish Fiat needed the alternator removed, so we had to take the exhaust, cooling fan shroud, front sway bar, exhaust manifold - all off just to remove the alternator. And no, it’s not a small, tight engine compartment. Looked like there was plenty of room, but it wasn’t designed well.

Well another busy week and weekend. Got the front harness in except the headlight area. Needs some repinning, all the wires r the same but they roughted them differently in the c4 chassis. Plus the litronic module is in the frunk now and not behind the pass side airbag as it was in my y2k.

Dash is ready for the pad but not gonna do it until im done cuttung and welding in the fire wall panel. It should be in by end if this week. Also the cowl area and abs, mc, booster are back together. Its nice putting parts back into the car.

I can confirm that the gt3 tank is the same dimensionally as the c2 tank. Its installed along with the filler and emisions hoses.

Does anyone know were this ground goes. Im sure ill have to take some stuff apart to get to it but 2 steps foward one step back.

That's some progress, you're motivated that's for sure.
What needs cutting up front? I didn't see any differences in the parts catalog.

I have no idea, I don't have a wiring diagram for a GT3. It's a hefty brown wire though. The only thing I can think of that would need that size, in that location, is the radiator fan. Possibly the headlight, it looks heavier than needed for a headlight though.

Its deffinately a ground and im.pretty sure its for the fuel door or some sensor by the fuel door. The issue with the schematic is its hard to find the end of the wire if u dont know what system its for

I think that is the ground wire for the filler tank neck. I did not realize the filler tank neck has a ground, but there it is listed in the ground schematics.

I think it should have one of these on the end of it, so maybe grounds behind the fuel door somewhere?
