So, the mounting differences discussed earlier, is it the transmission end or the other end?

Any chance the sheet metal part that the motor bolts to is just different to mate up with the mounts in the body? Wishful thinking?

No im pretty sure the motor is longer and thats why that cross piece is more narrow. The motor mounts actually hang off that crossmember sheet metal.

Im pretty sure ill order the section from la dismantler and weld it in. It will guarentee the motor goes in the correct spot and look factory.

I have a couple of 996 Turbos. Same engine. You might want to change all the small coolant hoses on the engine. There are quite a few that can't be reached with the engine in the car. I would change all the O-rings on the oil cooler - 4 on the oil cooler and 4 on the bracket. These also require engine removal to access.
With the pipes welded you should otherwise be all set. Nothing in the engine is going to wear out; my 180k mile engine is perfect inside, even the chain guides look new.
Changing the water pump you could consider. They do last a long time. No need to mess with the thermostat, no low temp thermostat is needed or even available.

Dare I ask what the price difference is between a crate motor (gt3 non turbo) and a M96?

Hah you just beat me to it! M96 was seen for about $25k. Question is whether they are actually in stock.

So many subtle differences in these cars. The GT3 and the GT2 use the same part here, the Turbo a different part and I can't understand why. The engine assembly is the same.

this is a real interesting thing. The turbo, gt2 and gt3 all have the same motor mount plate but u r right the turbo uses a different mount on the body side. All 3 and the c2 share the body panel behind the chassis motor mount. The actual motor mounts r also different numbers between the gt and turbos but they look the same. The gts look like thet hold the mount higher on the body side with a spacer.

im betting it can all go together if the right parts r used

GT3 mount being higher than the turbo possibly related to the solid bushing subframe?

i can measure tomor but the gt3 frame looks to have that space casted into it. I may need a pic from someone with a turbo to see if they use a spacer under the mount. It may be that the gt2 and 3 r based off the c4 chassis and not the widebody.....eventhough the gt2 is a wb.

i really dont want to remove the mounts from the gt3 chassis but i may have to if cant find a reasonably priced cut out off a junk car. Or ill put my fabrication hat on
