Did you use the black mount from the C2? The Turbo & C4S use a different mount. Perhaps it's shorter. You could skim 1/4 off the mount where it's bolted to the car, might be the easiest way.
Oh, that omega clip has to go in the way I have it. There is no way it will fit in the other direction.

If you fill the old trans mount with window-weld I'm sure it will be better than new.

So i played hooky from work this morning because this coolant resi tank thing bothers me. I did confirm that the old bracket and the newer one r the same dimensionally.

So i took the old broken bracket and cut it down, i also had to trim the webbing because it hits the sheet metal. I cut about 1/2" off. Then i discovered i had to raise the slot on the metal retaining bracket to match. I also slotted the retainer tab on the tank and for one more piece of protection i will make the rubber insert from a power steering retainer bracket into a bushing. I probably could have used the mk1 tank but mine is very old and a new one is $600. Now ill have a new genuine porsche mk2 tank for $120 and a modified bracket. I did verfiy that there is no issue with the engine lid too.

Not sure why this problem exists, but u can see that the coolant pipe was rubbing on the old car too.

Too close and rubbing on the tank

Modification to the bracket. Now that i know it works i will modify the nonbroken bracket

Modified matal mk2 metal bracket

Slotted hole on the tank retainer tab

Rubber spacer bushing

Finally enough clearence sonit doesnt rub and the clip can be inserted
notice the discoloration above the clip tab where it was rubbing in the old car

Nice! The new style tank is bigger too, which I don't know if it matters or not.

See that allen head cap screw in the foreground? That holds the shift detent spring. A lot of guys running the G50 transmission will take that cap off and add an 8mm ball to make the shift detents feel crisper, and it may help avoid popping out of gear. There is an official Porsche part# for the 8mm ball: 900 108 064 00 and it goes inside the detent roller under the spring. Use some sealant on the cap screw after.

thx ill check it out.

Ordered some delvac 75/90 full synth to fill up the trans. Apperently the po drained it, assume nothing and verify everything .

porsche wanted $54 a liter and the delvac was $57 for the gallon. Sometimes their pricing is so messed up. I got coolant for a 3rd of what the parts store wanted???

Well its ready to stab into the car tonight as long as the new coolant resi makes it today. I did get the detent ball installed into the trans. Interior is done as far as i can go until i get the shift cables adjusted. Im also waiting on seat brackets for the new to me pole position buckets and the roll cage to get back from paint.

So many differences between the M96 and the GT3 powertrain- I'm surprised especially with all of the extra stuff on the transmission and things like the starter location.

The gt3 is based off the Mezger air cooled engines, where the m96 was a new ptatform. The thing on the trans is just a cooler similar to the tip trans. Basically the set up is deigned for the track.

I suspect you are drawing many compare and contrast conclusions on your project. Looking forward to your thoughts once the project is finished.

Not to pump his tires up too much but DJ is a good wrench, plans and researches well and apparently is efficient as F.

Love the project, I think he should take on something a little harder next time

Yeah the Mezger internals are at least somewhat familiar through looking at the factory manuals etc (true dry sump/oil tank, way different cylinders/heads/crazy different TO bearing/oil extractors/intake etc), but I was surprised to see all of the other external stuff that I hadn't before. Cool.

Black Bear Pass?
I want to see a ramp score on the 996/GT3...
