Ok fine, a cheap shot. But on this forum it probably isn't useful to hear constant complaints and tearing down of other's 996s. There probably isn't a benefit to anyone at all by talking down about other people's 996s. It's time that we 996 owners admit we are still the bottom of the barrel in 911s, and probably will be for some time, so perhaps a bit of solidarity would be useful. Sure prices will rise, but there won't be a miracle. Please understand that each of us has an absolutely outstanding car, so why is there so much writing about which 996 is the most special, or picking on details, or which 996s are less desirable? Perhaps 996 owners who are participating in the "prices keep drifting up" might consider a more positive attitude.
Obviously a bait post and you took it.
but hey maybe tell your diatribe about not talking down to other 996s and their owners to Vampin who's spent countless posts and paragraphs saying how much he hates narrow body 996s and finds them ugly ?
Just a thought.

you are a character. Don’t you worry I’ll be sure not too talk about other 996’s in front of them. I wouldn’t want the car to get too upset and possibly blow a coolant line from crying too much! Or even worse bore score itself!

Snobbery within the 996 community is as ironic as it gets.

I bet the 996 owners who feel snobby about their cars because it’s a “special” 996 (be it a ‘99, C4S, 40th AE, whatever) are the same ones who get offended when other Porsche owners look down on the 996… as someone else pointed out, we are ALL at the bottom of the barrel in the 911 world.

Let’s be honest, 99% of us are here because we can’t afford the other 911 generations. No shame in admitting it!

I’m reminded of a great expression… “comparison is the thief of happiness”

The 996 is the only 911 Type to win LeMans

Ever

If that vantage point is the “bottom of the barrel” then that barrel sits atop Olympus

I hate to say it but the market has spoken and deemed that irrelevant. There is no other generation of 911 cheaper than the 996 today and that is what I meant.

I accept this fact and I don’t care because I love my car.

The market "spoke" about the 964 too, for decades

These days the 964 market is "speaking" something quite entirely else

When my cars goes to zero value from the inevitable bore scoring, IMS/AOS explosion that I'm told will occur it's still less depreciation than my new cars.

Bore scoring affects only a fraction of the later motors (and LNE Nickies sleeves eradicates it forever)
IMSB is easily replaced
AOS is easily upgraded

Don't donate that rapidly appreciating Classic 911 for a tax write-off just yet...

And doubles your investment in the vehicle at the same time! Win-win.

By the way, there is nothing wrong with being a proud and happy bottom feeder. It's all about the Porsche experience however you can get it.

I've owned Porsches continuously for 33 years, all of them wonderfully enjoyed as daily drivers, The main ones:
  • In 1988 bought a 931 ($5,500) with 55K miles and then it died after 7 years with 155K miles (gave to charity).
  • Then in 1995 bought a 911SC ($15,000) with 155K miles and after 11 years the engine blew with 295K miles (sold as a roller).
  • Then in 2006 bought a 968 Coupe ($9,000) with 122K miles and after 13 years with over 200K miles the engine blew (sold as a roller).
  • Then 2017 bought this C4S ($25K) with 80K miles, up to 107K miles now, and I'll just keep going, should be good easily for 200K miles and more.
They were all the bottom of the barrel cars that nobody really wanted. But were all great cars, and I got to enjoy them with very little expense. The 911SC was the least expensive and most reliable car I ever had, and honestly the 996 is heading in the same direction.

So celebrate bottom feeding for the tremendous value we can than get!
