Whatta score something so timeless and pure about the early cars, especially the non aero, bound to become a true 911 classic someday
I thought the deals were gone, but I just lucked into purchasing a two owner early 99 that a friend was selling. He owned it for 17 years, and took great care of it.
Guards Red 106k with LSD, and the perfect amount of upgrades. Fab speed exhaust, PSS9s, camber plates, sway bars, and a roll bar. All original parts included. I just need to source some amber triangles with roughly 100k on them.
I love this little firecracker.

I remember when one of my subordinates at work finally came up to me and asked how I can afford all my cars. Two Porsches, a Lotus, etc. They did the mental math (apparently it was as much as a house, they told me...) and told me how expensive they were, and how "on [my] salary, how can you afford it?" It was funny to watch their face when I told them how little they were in comparison to what they thought. I bought all my cars at peak depreciation and needing love. My colleague's brand new Audi A7 was more than all my cars COMBINED at that point, I just paid more in insurance. And possibly repairs. So, fortunately or not, no one knows your 911 is 20 years old or one model out of date, they just assume it's a 100k car.
And now, I have to get back to my prisoner exchange. Go pick up one car out of the shop and drop off another...

I wish I was making this up.

Commemorated by? Hand assembled? Reference on intermix issue, please? Reference on timed with the LeMans win, please?
Sorry, @bdronsick , I'm going to press you on these refrains if no one else will. Happy to have these proven out with sources.

The “04/98” date of a Porsche factory fire is directly related to the “coolant-intermix” defective engine block warranty issue, and completely unrelated to the start-stop dates of the first “early” MY1999 production run that was shared along the outgoing 993 assembly line: which was 11/97 – 08/98.
These “early” hand assembled cars were all commemorated by Porsche with the unique amber lenses head and tail lights (whether they fell within the defective block engine serial range indicated by 04/98 or not).
Most of this “early” 11/97 – 08/98 production run was reserved for “MY1998” 996 European market release only, as it was precisely timed to coincide with the 996 GT1 LeMans win in France earlier that same year.
Only a VERY small percentage of the almost two-year total MY1999 production run were comprised of the “early” amber lenses coupes, and only a fraction of those ever actually made it to North America.
This is one of them.
