If that is correct it would seem sports plus does more than remap the throttle. I can't see how that alone would affect emissions.

In general simple terms: making the pedal act like an old-school pedal connected to a throttle plate via a cable is bad for emissions when the plate is being moved by the pedal. But it does provide the ‘sports car’ experience. Cables between the pedal and the throttle plate disappeared 15-ish years ago specifically for a tiny marginal improvement of emissions.

My dealer said software fix in the works - should be here this spring but doesn’t know the ramifications or to what extent it will affect HP if any. Said that I can always refuse to do it.

That translates to they have no idea. I've heard that as well, and the guy said wink wink as much.

My first question is who found this emissions issue? I can't imagine a state inspection station running a car in Sport+ for testing. Appears that Porsche had internal testing that showed Sport+ generated too much nitrogen emissions which was discovered as part of the diesel audit. I DE a 2013 Boxster S PDK with SC that in theory is on the list. The 2015-16 981 GTS have 20 more HP which I understand is all software tuning. I think we all agree that Sport+ has a separate throttle map that does not add HP but IMO gets you to and maintains peak HP quicker. I'm sure it won't be an option but I'll take the "fix" along with the GTS software tune.

GTS X51 package changed engine internals too, not just a software tune.

Carrera X51 Powerkit

Increases performance to 430 hp. Contains:
  • modified cylinder heads and camshafts
  • newly developed variable resonance intake system featuring 6 plus 1 switchable valves
  • center radiator

Just had my 2012 991.1S with SC at dealer for some warranty work. When picked up car, here is what invoice/service ticket said:

"Sport Chrono Package (Stop sales campaign) 20 WLN1 PARTS UNAVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. NO REPAIRS MADE AT THIS TIME".

The service advisor stated, when asked, that the entry meant that my vehicle would be covered by the stop sale and recall.

So, unless and until you sell or trade your car to a Porsche dealer and it becomes part of the dealer's inventory, it is not covered by the stop sale.

So far, there is no recall or service campaign affecting privately owned or leased cars.

Not my understanding of it, the Porsche dealers can take them in trade but cannot resell and if this issue is EPA related all of them need to be fixed.

You would think the dealers would be on Porsche's *** about getting this thing fixed asap so they can unload standing inventory.

I would bet that PCNA just like any other manufacturer, provides dealer floor plan assistance and these car are being held free of any carrying costs. I would also bet that they are being compensated for storage of said vehicles. Finally, rest assured, if dealers are quiet they are making $$ on this stop sale campaign.

And they get a chance to upsell disappointed or impatient potential customers a new model.
