964 Prices
#1336
The problem is that if you sell, you'll never get a comparable car back for the same money. And yes, this crazyness will carry over into 2022. A little birdy told me.. Have fun.

It’s only money. You can’t take it (or the cars) to the grave with you.

Spoke to insurance and got my policy adjusted!
Honestly though, I'm almost considering selling with some of these prices...

Burning Brakes
Only thing is I don't keep my 964 to make money. That is why I have real estate and stocks.
If you are happy with the 997 GT3 that is all that matters.
I wish the 964 market would drop back down to rock bottom so I don't worry every time I venture out.
I first bought mine when it was the poor red headed step child of the Porsche world and no one wanted one.

If you want the 964 market to drop then discuss the Major Oil Leaks, Carbon Monoxide. Crappy A/C. Targas that leak air and Water, Cabs that their top's break, Oil Smell in the Cabin, Dis-functional Climate control units, Wife's that cover their nose when riding along. Go on and on like they did in 2000 when the Water Cooled came out and everyone abandon 964s. Then us true 30 year collectors can start buying again. Cause we don't buy one to resell. We keep buying.

@Scott Dunavant All hearsay, hearsay. Who said those things about a 964?
If we open up a thread about all those things I will be a recurring contributor. Few questions for you? What color is your 92 Targa and why do you make a distinction between 92 964 AR and 92 964 AR Cab on your footnote? Or are these past cars? Good stuff..

The targa was Black and Tan. I Had two Factory Roadsters. Plus two that were converted to Roadsters. Might need to update that List. yes previous since 1995.

how much is your total cost of ownership so far? I am interested to know, and please DM as well, if appropriate.
@Scott Dunavant I am glad to hear point of views of collectors, yourself. Some of your comments are in my list of what my 964's attributes are. I truly believe that buyers of 964's desire this model range not because they are wanting those issues you mentioned, but because they are well known, and most often, have been sorted out for them to enjoy the car.
If I bought the car in 1991, and have these experiences, and after less than a decade, given an option to upgrade to a 993, or even a 996, I totally can understand why you will sell it and move on.

I suppose it is a good thing you can't smell them over the internet.

Strange, mine smells like leather inside!
Also, no leaks, no carbon monoxide issue, A/C blows cold (even at nearly 100 degrees out), coupe so no top issue, girlfriend (wife) issue... well there is the problem, she always wants to drive!

Clearly people who don't know much about them and what make these tick. As the 993's approach the 30 year mark years after the 964 so many of the same issues are occurring to 993's. The 964's appear to have more issues because they lost value and owners neglected them. I have 4 964's and they don't leak but I maintain mine as they should be. Not difficult to DIY these for most.
Another misnomer. Buy a sound car, find a reasonable mechanic that won't rip you off and keep them properly maintained and they will run forever. No more expensive than any other car from that era. The differences are Porsche classic keeps producing parts as where many of the other sports cars of the time parts are NLA. Many times parts are more reasonable than similar modern day parts for the newer Porsche's which aren't cheap. My sons High pressure fuel pump on his 14 cayman S was $1,100 how much are 964 fuel pumps and how often do they fail?
