It’s past $200K already, with likely plenty to run.

I have to agree with Cobalt with his insight on 964’s. I benefited directly from his knowledge when I recently bought my RSA. Mine has higher miles and has driver level aesthetics. I had many discussions with the seller and had a PPI done at a local shop that specializes in AC 911s. The car had a full motor rebuild and the owner said it pulled strong, which was confirmed in the PPI. I bought exactly what I wanted, a drivers car to improve and modify. I have grand plans for this car and can’t wait to start the modifications.

Now this 1 of 1 on BaT is not for me but I can appreciate someone wanting a rare bird. What caught my eye on this auction is that the paint meter readings are not as consistent as you would think for a car with no paint work. My car has had some paint however the original paint areas are very repeatable with the meter readings. So back to what Cobalt advised apply due diligence on any car whether it’s a driver or a low mile rare bird.

To each their own I guess.
Your first problem is that you trust an insurance company. Hagerty values are (probably) ok for high-volume classic American muscle cars in the ~$10-20k range, but that graph just has absolutely zero ties with reality. While i'm not convinced there isn't some money laundering being done on BaT, it nevertheless provides the most public market data for 911s. As you can see, there is no correlation for the overlapping time periods: https://bringatrailer.com/porsche/911-rs-america/

Anecdotally, there was a bit of a dip in the market for all aircooled 911s a few years ago, but nowhere near as dramatic as that graph suggests. Here is another corroborating source listing actual comps (which are mostly BaT, but also other auctions) not just some algorithmic-derived mumbo jumbo: https://www.classic.com/m/porsche/91...ra-rs-america/

Current prices are also obviously at their all-time highs, which the Hagerty graph just apparently ignores.

I prefer to trust my eyes.

Market Analysis: We should all respray our cars black

I have to say it is a sad day when these cars are reduced to data points and dollars.

Yesterdays RSA sold to an avid collector, enthusiast and reseller. He knows the market as well as anyone and would not have invested in a car like that unless he felt it was a viable purchase or already had a customer in mind that didn't want to deal with the BS. I see a lot of 964's sell privately and BaT isn't the only place people are spending up for these cars. Although IMO all of this talk about money has finally brought it to a point where the fun is taken away from the hobby. Even my C2 which I am redoing completely at 60k miles to my personal tastes has become too valuable to be just a driver as I had intended.

At least the days of "I want to buy your Porch" are over and people don't chase you down thinking you will sell them your car cheap and make a quick buck flipping it as they know how tight the margins have become. Although the cross hairs are still focused on the car when I take them out and leave them makes me very uncomfortable lately. I much prefer the days when these were just used cars and easy to spot a good one vs a gussied up *****.

If I had my crystal ball polished I would have fought my wife and purchased those 20 cars I saw be sold off to Singer as donors. At $35-40k for a 5 speed coupe that had what I consider minimal needs in desirable colors, I would have easily fixed them up and sold them off by now. But as they say Tomorrow never knows.

I wish I could say the same for me. I keep getting constantly asked regarding my C4. Followed even. Sadly, I had my fill one day and I snapped at the person asking based on their approach and demeanor (looked and acted like a sleaze ball) However, while i still drive mine daily. I am considering installing a black vue dash cam for security reasons while away from the car.

The name of this thread is "964 prices?"

Not trying to antagonize anyone personally, but I honestly think some of you need to take a step back and look at the situation more objectively:
Your car(s), which are arguably the most desirable make and model of any in the world, have doubled in value over the past 2 years. Meanwhile there are many people who can no longer afford a used Honda Civic because of the current craziness in car prices.

Let me get out my world's smallest violin because some of us no longer feel comfortable driving a 911 everyday and must instead relegate it to weekend duty.

^^^ Sure, I get it, eat your greens there are kids starving in Africa.

But given the staggering leap in 964 values, I do think it is relevant to share feelings or misgivings about daily driving our cars. As the cars have aged and become more valuable, the likelihood of being able to replace a cherished car is getting extremely difficult. Personally, as much as I enjoy driving mine, I do think twice about driving in heavy LA traffic during peak times; only an idiot wears a gold Rolex on the subway.

Values are what they are, they will change. I think we have a tendency to focus on the extremes and not the middle of the bell curve which is more relevant for most of us. I worry more about theft with increasing values, but if you have a valuable collectors car of any sort that’s the risk. The odd calculus is that if you have a car thats a pristine, low mile example that looses its perceived value if it is driven or scratched, does that take the fun out of it. At least for me it does. I want to go out and enjoy it not worry about it. I used to drive a RSA every day to work rain or shine. All kinds of 911’s before that. These days not so much after having one stolen from my office. So for me having a precious collector car is less appealing than a nice, modded like I like it daily driver. More my bag. Values be damned. I mean these days a ford truck can run you 110K….u don’t cry about that in the parking lot at Home Depot….

Default 1990 C4

Hello from Norway!

Have a partially restored RoW non-sunroof manual C4 my indie just finished an engine job on and replaced all sorts of worn parts on, joints, bushes, fuel lines, clutch etc, etc. Car is satin black and has 140000km on it. Full cup exhaust and a 300hp kit to it so it shifts rather nicely and rides beautifully on PSS10’s.

Now my indie asks if I wanna sell it and if he’s to put it on the market for me?

It was my first Porsche bought in 2014. Did **** up and sell it 2016, but bought it back this year. Don’t really need the money and can sit on it. Have a new Porsche on order and I’m dailying my ever so gorgeous Taycan. 964 probably will end up being a garage queen, but for sure I’ll drive it on appropriate occasions, maybe even an odd track day as it’s quite raucous and a delight to pilot through corners.

Anyone have an idea of what a fair sale price would be?

Default 1992 c2 light mods

I got my 92 C2 5 a number of years back and paid a premium at the time. It had orig 63k miles and now still under 70k. I put in a lot of money into it, full respray in slate gray NON metallic (was slate gray), did the fvd cat delete exhaust with dual tips, gt2 seats (heated), all Rennline interior bits, Porsche sport classic radio, upgraded a/c controller, Joey selley set up the suspension forget what shocks we used, rs pulley, short shift, lightweight fly, 1552 Magnus wheels, full ppf wrap and ceramic coat, cover. Figure I have at least $175 in it. I don't really drive it and was thinking about selling it this year but don't think the market is at $200k yet.
