I am a huge Porsche fan, so dont take this the wrong way... BUT
Why are 951's so slow at the drag strip? With all othe $$ and mods you guys are putting into these cars, why are Honda Civics beating us by over 2 seconds??? exp. Cortney Greens civic runs 9.916s. I know his car is modified, but so are all the cars on the top ten list here. Come on guys!! A Civic.....
Tim, maybe you can enlighten us on this. And George where is your drag slip?
Also the guys here in Utah that know Cortney, say that he is running around
50+ psi (I call BS) but if so how is he doing this????

you need to know these cars, weak tranny & axles, gear ratios, lag, etc.. I always knew 951's aren't good at the strip. They shine somewhere else.

Apples and oranges.
If you optimized a 944 for the strip it will put down the times.... I'm pretty positive that Honda was optimized for the strip and it weighs in at 2100 lbs at best. Next is the engine and here the Honda is above all with efficiency. 950ne went to the strip with approx 380 whp or less a B16 ( 1.6 L ) Honda will put that down with 12-14 psi of boost and revs to 9000 RPM . Most likely a Honda civic with a 2 L setup and 30 +PSI ( typical of the genre ) is making close to 700 whp. 700 whp in a 2100 lb civic is a no brainer for running 9.90 et's in actuality that is not a fast time for the genre.
and yes 50 + psi can and have been ran on those engines ....

I also have the the turbo S gearbox that doesn't shut me off at 123.7 mph @ 6700 revs like the S2 did.
I hope to post something respectable on 116 soon.

Thought I'd pipe in here.
The 951 cars aren't designed, nor meant to be a drag car. My stock transmission is toast, and we are in the process of installing a 968 six speed with LSD. When I get things done, I'll go to the test and tune and see how the car does.
Those 9-10second hondas can only go in a straight line. The motors are sleeved and typically have NO cooling. They pack a alum box full of dry ice in the passenger seat and run the intercooler piping through it.
Apples and Rocks as far as comparison between a well built track/street 951 and a 9 second Honda.

Its called IRS(independant rear suspension) and $2000 clutch jobs. If you can get past those things, these cars can run fast in the quarter mile.

Unfortunately there are not any tracks near me (except my 3/4 mile winding driveway) so all I have to look forward to in this land of NASCAR Ovals is stoplight to stoplight ...unless of course I can make the 951 4 wheel drive witha 6" lift kit....hmmm.....

Burning Brakes
The only reason that I bring this up is that ALL sport cars are measured on 3 big things. 1/4 mile times 0-60 times top speed.
If these cars are to be "super sport cars" then they need to be able to go
0-60 in 4 sec range, 1/4 mile times in 11 sec range and have a top speed of 180+. Also most (common people) judge how "super" a sports car is by how fast it can accelorate on the street when their buddy takes them on a ride. So right now the Jap. car croud can not only brag that their car is faster than a Porsche, but they can back it up on the track. All that we can do is turn down races and say it is cool "It is still a Porsche not a Honda"
