@Clark_Kent So did you see the link in the first post to the video for instructions and the link for the AIO file? The instructions are very specific as to formats, files and process, did you see all of these?

Question for those of you that have ordered an LVDS cable to connect to the instrument cluster:

What was the part number that you used?

I initially went to find part number 9P3-979-001, but was told by a parts department that that part number would not work for my car (2023 718), and I would instead need either part number 9P1-979-002 or 9P1-979-018, one is 1025mm and the other is 600mm.

I feel like I'm getting bad information, but I haven't been able to confirm independently yet.

tia.

Given the similarity of the part number I would say that they are revised parts, did you look them in the online parts stores like Perimeter Porsche?

Here's the version which came with the car. I'll update it tonight to the latest. Seems like a very easy deal to do.
I've also noticed the maps are kind fugly ugly. Lots of white on white. Not great contrast... I know this is unlikely, but it would be nice if they improved the appearance of the maps in the latest version

If they did a search with your VIN, the cable would show that it’s not compatible with your car. Try to get the Cluster part number associated with your VIN. I don’t know if the other part numbers that you listed supersede the original cable 9P3-979-001, The 1025 mm cable is for RHD. Same cable but longer.

Right on, makes sense, I have a reply back to the parts department to clarify that the alternate parts they listed are for the correct item, I'll post back with the information when I hear back from them.

@or0b0to For my '22 BGTS I used part # 9P3-979-001. I believe it was approx 1 meter long but I'm not sure . 600 mm might be too short to allow connecting to the instrument cluster when it's pulled out from the dashboard. FWIW my parts dept also told me this was not for my VIN, this is because I didn't order factory Nav. Good luck! FWIW, I'd stick to 9P3-979-001 ... just my 2¢

Roger that, thanks for the info.

I went ahead and got both part numbers for science.

I'll ohm them both out and compare connectors to validate whether or not they're equivalent cables and report back.

I'll also check length and installation for both should they be equivalent.

I successfully updated my map last night to the most recent. I had to do it twice because the first time I accidentally updated to the 2022 map and not the most recent 2023 (US) update. The longest part for me was extracting the files from my computer to the SD card. That took an hour. The update in the car only took about 20-30 min at most. Very easy to do.

Thank you everyone who's contributed to this thread and especially 718!!

Wow, really? Was your car in for anything related to the PCM or was just a "good will" repair?

Did they say something or ask before doing this.

This was due to the rear deck being replaced as a wheel fell on it. The body shop sent it to Porsche to make sure all sensors etc. were working correctly. It was then stuck there as "the car was not reading the GPS antenna". I kindly told the body shop that there is no GPS antenna installed as It is sitting in my garage as I never installed it. They said that no it was the satellite radio antenna that they couldn't see.

Two days later, the car goes back to the body shop. I asked what the resolution was, they sheepishly said that I was right, it was the non-existent GPS antenna that the Porsche dealership was looking for.

When I went to pick up my car, I noticed the wireless AA wasn't working. I hit the nav and it shows unavailable. So, I assume in their trouble shooting, they reloaded the software and had it back to factory settings.

Ahhh, so all a part of their trouble shooting, reset/reload the PCM, not really a surprise move by them. They would not have known beforehand about the modified firmware. At least you can re-do the process and get the AA and NAV back.

BTW, looks as good as new over in the Official pictures thread.

Finally! Success! Today I decided to try this again, but I bought a new 32gb SD card and a new SD card reader. Extracted the AIO software to the Fat32 card, put it in the SD slot and it went through the process. This time the Nav and Map buttons showed up and android auto worked upon plugging my phone in. Even though previously the car showed it had no maps during earlier attempts, it appears to have a 2021/2022 map already loaded. Pumped to use waze and android auto for my 90 mile drive to autocross tomorrow! Thanks everyone for the help.
