Hi Pete. That trip sounds alot of fun. I just love Italy. This is what I have chosen as party of our itinerary towards the end of 2013. Im taking by own advise hopefully. No plans finalized quite yet. Still not sure if well get back into Southern Hemisphere for Targa NZ again in the 993 but hoping I can make it work....
P.S. We own a lovely little waterfront holiday rental home if your slumming it on my island LOL! Its popular.Always happy to extend a discount to a fellow Porsche nut. At the moment we are offering friends and family a 30% discount for stays between 01 Fen and 01 June, but I can work something out for you even during peak season if its of interest...see below.
PPS. I didn't realize you have already seen my Vanuatu Porsche. Its just like you describe but my license plate is "911" (Im dead serious!)

Sorry Nik. I cant recall the resource but I think you're nailed the abnomally as some of the colours mentioned were not supplied in MK1 variety (i.e. Iris blue). Apologies is just part of the stack of useless data Ive collected over time! I know 8 of the Mk1s personally. I recall foour imports that I know of (2 x UK, 2 x Sing).
Hey Peter good work locating the agent. I recall Revo do sell recaro now - wasn't aware they are the agent. I bet their pricing is strong. You are wanting the "Furious" model its the Pole Position by a different name. I knew one of the brothers that run and own the joint the recovered my OEM hardback 993 sports seats in classic grey. Let us know the price for a special order three sets and if they can also recover if required...

Questions for those experienced in this:
1. Aside from optics, why do you keep two seats for track oriented cars?
2. Is Recaro demonstrably better quality than say Racetech?

Macca - Garda is gorgeous - stayed a week there back in the UK days. This time we bypassed it but if you get the chance some of the roads in the Tyrol are wonderful to drive - up to the Grossglockner is AMAZING!
Always had a soft spot for Vanuatu - honeymoon there 22 years ago (Iririki was new then!) For 2 of the last 3 years we've been at Lagoon Beach and back for a week this year in July. Have tacked on another 5 days at Eratap as a bit of a midwinter treat as well.
John - re 1. I think that if you're putting in a half cage or a harness bar it just seems logical to put in another seat. Lets you take a passenger on track days as only qualified instructors can run as passengers with standard belts. And it does look better!
No idea re 2. I'd probably have a preference for the Profi SPG XLs - a bit more width and maybe a bit easier to live with daily. Might have to barter with Matt for the ones out of his new GT3.....

That's as far as I got as well, although searches did bring up alternatives made in NZ e.g. Racetech with prices.

Recaros in a Porsche is pretty iconic though.

Peter. Thanks for the heads up. Ive added your comments to my travel file. We will do the 10 day Garda region trip and take in some of the paces you mention. If we meet in March Ill pick your brains further! I have also in plan a 6 day trip leaving Munich taking in all the famous passes in Switzerland, Italy, Austria etc. Would be good seeing you whilst your in Vanuatu too.
John. In answer to your question 1). I run a passenger seat of same design for a) aesthetic and b) Rallly. My wife finds the race seat much more comfortable than the standard seats or the OEM hardback sport seats. Its essential that the navigator is firmly planted in the car and comfortable especially given some the cornering forces encountered!
for question 2) Im afraid RZ ZWEI has hit the nail on the head. Anything but a Recaro (particularly Pole Position of which a variant was factory standard in the 964 and 993 RS and cup cars) is sacralidge. Call me a snob but I did it already with non FAI seats and now i will do it with the correct period seat - Recaro PP FAI. Its not an issue for the Tour but for the Targa proper or any local or international event FAI is required and lets face it as said before for a few hundred bucks extra Recaro and Porsche are iconic.
Ill call mark at revo tomorrow and get the deal on the Recaro seat see if its worth doing loco....

Macca - if you're interested I can send you the contact details for some amazing places we stayed. We found a company that specialised in out of the way boutique B&B's which added a whole different dimension to the trip.

Thanks Peter. I have just PM'd you. Much appreciated.
I just called Revo to discuss the Recaro PPP/Furious. They no longer sell Recaro bucket seats for racing and are only interested in recovering seats. They said their website was way out of date!
Back to the drawing board guys. Can some give Lynal Williams a call at Lifestyle Motorsports and ask him where he sources Recaro chairs from in NZ?
Failing that I still suggest USA/UK will be cheaper.

I'm in an open office in Sydney with no mobile, and don't want to share my conversation with the whole office. I'll take the UK leg and send a message to Design 911 to see what they can do.
Edit: Recaro Pole Position Race seats will be ~ NZD 1,000 each as a start. Add hardware, freight and GST to that. I suspect that pooling the order may not carry much weight in reducing cost, but we will see. Don't forget that we lose about $100 of GST exemption if we pool.

No business or person by that name in NZ that I can see? Apart from a Coy struck off in 1998! What do they do and any tips for searching?

Hi John. I looked on their site and the Recaro Furious seemed like the best price and option. I worked out around NZ$3400 including GST, alloy side mounts x 2, sliders x 2 and freight (350 GBP per package).
I agree with you there's probably no real advantage in buying together unless they discount the seats substantially. Regardless of pooling of not the GST will apply to the full shipment value I believe as in any case its over $400 nzd.
Given I have a perfectly good set of non FAI CF buckets in grey leather and alacantera and the FAI cert is only good for 10 years (from memory) Ill probably step aside on this. Im looking at 2018/19 before the 993 is eligible for European Vintage series and between now and then only see Playdays and Targa Tours on the horizon so no point in loosing years off the certification for no real benefit.
If you are looking for a cheap half way solution I could recommend the seat Im using x 2 in CF with black leather landed in NZ with freight brackets and sliders for $1500 nzd. The company made BRIDE seats (a popular drift racers seat company!).
