The value doesn't seem to be there. I think it works better in the US where you can get a lot more cars for under $1k and a lot more work done for cheap also.
And NZ$1000 is only $660 US. I think they mostly just copied the US rules maybe. This one just doesn't work with most jap cars for instance:

"On all sides, all drivers’ helmeted heads must be at least two inches inside the area enclosed by the cage."

In the Grinch I'm already driving with my head a bit sideways, though I suppose that if you don't count the foam as part of the cage she could slip through. Actually, reading it literally, the head itself needs to be two inches inside the cage, so the helmet liner should count as distance too. Might be pushing it uphill to convince them though, at which point the whiner clause would kick in!

There is no way that our cars on steelies and worn tyres are likely to sell for over $1000 if stripped of their cages, and they already have complying cages fitted. Unless they are inundated with entries, it wouldn't surprise me to see them allow a few more 2K cuppers than the ones that cost under $1000 to start with.

Take away both the cost of fitting a cage and the personal safety gear - as Team RSG already has both if eligible - and it looks like a better deal again, provided no-one gets Explored by a Ford.

Thanks for the comments guys. Figured the least I could do to repay the faith shown in me by her other owners was to provide a bit of a battle report.

Will get some Grinch action shots up too but here's a shot already of my favourite car of the meet - Stuart McFarlane's '74/'75 rally special. This was shot on day 2, after overnight rain had consolidated the loose sand and a full morning's track prep had much improved the condition of the infield compared to Saturday. Stuart was on his second engine for the meet by then!

To me the problem is you have to spend $1k on the car, ~$2k on the safety gear and $4.5k on the entry fees. If you're unlucky you pop something on the first corner. If you're lucky you finish the race, but you're still left with something that's probably not competitive in 2kcup. And all the 2kcup cars which have already been bought and had all the safety gear added can't be entered.

I think it will be a cool event but I'm surprised they haven't made it line up with the 2kcup. The initial car price is only a minor part of the whole entry cost after all.

Agreed. The whole Car is just a marketing exercise to preview the MT (they have yesterday more or less confirmed) will go into the next gen GT3 announced in 12 months time and costing over 100k less (for those less rich and more patient). With 911 examples (maybe 3-5 in NZ) the R will not be seen on the track. It's an interesting preview to what's around the corner, a 500bhp, GT3 with MT option...

Macca - can you kindly clarify what you are trying to say here?

I do note of interest they call it a 911R and not a 991R.
