Great idea Macca! Count me in. On the subject of "unwanted forum attention" by public servants or the like, we could have some fun. Thinking like this: http://www.419eater.com/html/ahmed_sadiq.htm Anyone want to go fishing?
Cheers, Mike

Walter. Dare we ask how the Grinch got to Tauranga?
Btw Dans advice is buy the auto engine, install it and then do the head swap later. Goal is a running car. We can likely do the head ourselves later on.

Allan was pulling BB2s head to check her already. Yet to hear back. Bloody good spectacle here!
Watching the rally cars run quali so I can stay out of the tank traps on my run in 30 min or so. Then another after.

Gentlemen/others, those of you with a Cayenne/Touareg (v8/ turbo/ v8 diesel - 6 cyl doesn't count) what sort of real world litres/100km are you achieving? Breakdown not towing/ towing.
L.cruiser diesel needs bit of engine work - wondering about change - man math equations. Euro suv's are a bit lacking in luggage space aft of the seats. L.cruiser fits a tray 1100x1100 which can take 12 fish bins.
Also needs to be civilized on proper 4x4 tyres rather than just high street tyres.
How rugged are they? Probably makes more sense to replace fuel pump, injectors etc, but I'm curious.
Loose surface grip is very important -steep sand/gravel beach launches.
Cheers

Done 23,000 km in a 2005 Cayenne S (4.5l V8). Doug reckons highway mileage should be 11~12 litres per 100 km. I struggle to see better than 15.
My thought is that they are like Business Class travel for the road. Comfortable, quiet, powerful and even agile. They tow well.
They are not ideal for taking large amounts of luggage and suck gas, which given they weigh 2.5 tonnes shouldn't be a surprise. I have normal road tyres which are lasting well. Not sure they suit 4x4 chunky tyres. It would affect the ride quality and NVH
Brilliant vehicles when used for their main purpose but they are not all things to all people and I don't see them being suitable as a part time commercial vehicle.
I also have to say that their depreciation in the early years of their life is shocking. We purposely bought the lowest km older example we could find as the price doesn't change much whether they have 100,000km or 180,000km and how much can a $25,000 vehicle depreciate?

David.
Maybe look at Range Rover rather than Cayenne. I have spent time with both (2008 RR & 2006 Cayenne). RR has better off road, larger cabin (just) and depending on engine config better fuel miles. I thought it was better designed for its 4x4 purpose.
In reality like John says neither above very logical commercial vehicles even with man math. Probably need to look a G-wagon, raptor 1.5 cab, defender 110, or new Jeep grand Cherokee with 5.7L to get half excited.
I still think a 8d Toyota Land Cruiser will be damn hard to beat!

Yeah. Sorry. I know it's not what you want to hear. I had LOGIC getting in the way of a good Man Math exercise but given the remit I can't help but think the VX is the best tool for the job (the previous model vs the latest ugly version too).
John. Radio silence form the Herman camp? How did it all shake down? Gearbox fixed?
